Yager Development is a video game developer who was responsible for starting the development on the now cancelled version of Dead Island 2, though were dropped 3 years into production.

The following is a quote from Yager's website: "YAGER is an independent developer of computer and video games based in Berlin, Germany. Founded in 1999 by five dedicated developers and artists, our focus is the creation of vivid and meaningful AAA gaming experiences. Today, a team of 100-plus developers is busy at work bringing YAGER's vision of gaming to life."[1]

Overview[]

Yager Development was formed in 1999 by a team of 5 developers in Berlin, Germany. They didn't produce their first game until 4 years later in 2003, when they created and released Yager on both PC and XBOX to mixed-to-average reviews from critics. They then didn't release a new game until 7 years later in 2012, when they released the FPS game Spec Ops: The Line to critical and commercial success. After this, Deep Silver reached out to them to develop the successor to Dead Island, Dead Island 2. They worked on it for 3 years before Deep Silver cut ties with Yager in July 2015, three years into the game's development. Subsequently, Yager Productions GmbH, the Yager Development sub-studio set up for the development of Dead Island 2, filed for insolvency later that month, since they could not pay the debts they'd accrued while developing Dead Island 2. The managing director of Yager Development, Timo Ullmann, later stated that the company's departure from the project occurred because "Yager and Deep Silver's respective visions of the project fell out of alignment".

Trivia[]

  • In 2020, a 2015 build of Dead Island 2 being developed by Yager was found and leaked to the internet, featuring a small, basic yet playable area of map, as well as a "dev room" featuring all the weapons and zombies in the game with methods of spawning and using them.
