The Wakizashi is a sharp melee weapon featured in Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. It can be given out as a Quest reward, sold be certain Merchants or found on killed Zombies or in Metal chests.
Overview[]
The Wakizashi is most similar to the Katana with very similar stats being very high damage but for low or very low force. However, as a shorter, one-handed version, it naturally has a shorter range and faster swing than a standard but for a lower durability. It uses slightly less stamina than the Katana as well, likely due to its one handed nature. Because of its 'glass cannon' stats, the weapon is not advised to be used against basic enemies such as Walkers or Infected as its essentially overkill to use it on them, not to mention money inefficient as the Wakizashi has a very high Cash repair cost. As such, the weapon should only be used on special infected such as Wrestlers or Butchers, or even Infected White, as its high damage can quickly make their high health pools evaporate. Special infected typically also drop large sums of cash somewhat regularly, which helps offset the high repair cost that will follow using this weapon for any length of time.

Notes[]
- A couple of quests give out Wakizashis as a reward:
- Sebastian at the Laboratory will give a Wakizashi for completing his final side quest Message of Love.
- Marvin in Riptide will give one out for completing his side quest Family Ties.
- Several merchants can sell a Wakizashi:
- Keenan Fisher at the River Village can sell one after getting his stock back following completion of the main quest Chasing Shadows.
- Dwight Turner at the Overpass Camp can sell one after completing his side quest Visit to the Pub.
- Joel Dirt at the Lab can sell one.
- Jeremy at the Prison Canteen can sell one.
- Alex in Henderson in Riptide can sell one after completing his rescue quest Rescue Alex.
- Supposedly there is a higher chance of finding a Wakizashi in the level one to two chests in Moresby or the Jungle.
- Unless money is not a concern, it's recommended to use this weapon only on special infected.
Trivia[]
- The weapon appears to be featured in Dead Island: Epidemic as the Shocking Wakizashis fists melee weapon.
- The Wakizashi has one of the highest repair costs in the game, excluding the dev weapons.
