Voice Recorder

Linda's Voice Recorder is an item featured in Escape Dead Island. It's an item you retrieve at the start of the game, but you don't get to keep it. Instead, Cliff hands it over to Linda after she asks him to collect it from the boat cabin.

Location[]

Inside the boat cabin during Mission 1 - Smooth Sailing. Go down the stairs into the cabin and the recorder is on a table out in the open.

Usage[]

The voice recorder is an item that you don't actually get to use yourself. It's not used for any quests during the game and after collecting it, Cliff hands it to Linda as she requested him to go get it for her. The idea of it was for her to interview people on the island to find out what GeoPharm is doing there. Of course, this never happens and the recorder is only used to record the thoughts of the three of them. Linda keeps a hold of it before Cliff retrieves it from her near the end of the game. It is seen again in the ending cutscene where Cliff records something detailing everything that happened on the island, before putting it in an orange box with videos, pictures, files and logs he collected and releasing it to the ocean.

The voice recorder is not modelled on a character model, so it doesn't appear on whoever is carrying it.

When you first collect the recorder, Cliff listens to the recorder, despite Linda telling him not to. Linda has already recorded something on it and what she's said here as follows:

“Day 1 - This is crazy. I've been reading about Banoi and reports of zombies, if you can believe it, on the roguewave forums, but I never thought I'd actually be in the middle of this story. Cliff's dad is going to be pissed we took his boat. But I think Cliff is kinda banking on that. And if we get this story... all's forgiven. At least, I hope so, 'cause it would really suck if his dad sunk my career before it started.”

The recorder makes one final appearance at the very end of the game, after being the final boss. Cliff records something into it, detailing the stuff in the box in front of him, before locking it and setting it adrift. Here's what he said:

“By the time you hear this, I'll be dead, or undead, or insane or caught in an alternate dimension or something. But I can confirm the suspicions that the deadly outbreak on Banoi was caused by reckless GeoPharm experiments being conducted in secret labs on the island of Narapela. At least I can get that across. This box contains logs, research notes, pictures, all the proof anyone needs to understand the scope of what humanity is about to face, and some kind of chemical clue that might be able to save them. The virus is real, and it's coming. My name is Cliff Calo and this is my story.”
