The Tomb of Natives is a location featured in Dead Island. It is the burial site for the local natives of Banoi. The main landmarks of the area consists of the Natives' Village and the Catacombs.
Layout[]
The map is relatively small in comparison to other places like the jungle or Laboratory. However, it is one of the more beautiful places on Banoi, really showing off the natural wonders of the island. There is no sign of modern technology and all you see around you is the jungle and native structures of Banoi. There are several waterfalls around while a river runs through the middle of the map. There is only one pathway around the area, so there's not much to explore. There are very few secrets to discover and, as such, no reason to come back here after you save Yerema. No other main quests take place here, nor are there any side quests to take either. Mowen's Boat is docket at the river mouth while a bunker can be seen above the second section of the village, on the mountain. However, the bunker is empty and it is a waste of time to get there, though it is accessible.
The Natives' Village is the first area you'll come to while travelling with Koritoia Ope. It was the village he grew up in and likely the main village of the natives for hundreds of years. However, it was overrun by the infected, forcing the survivors to flee to the cave we meet them in at the Lab. Like all the other huts on Banoi, the buildings are built on stilts with either ladders or stairs to access them. They have no doors and are sparse inside, with only a few containers if that. There's a fire pit in the centre with a large spit for either hanging a cooking pot from or for roasting an animal. There's many baskets of fruit around, as well as some large, imposing stone statues dotted around.
There's several wooden rope bridges further down, crossing over a large gap where a river and several waterfalls run. There is a mechanically operated drawbridge leading to the entrance of the native's tomb which is built into a mountainside. There are two levers, one either side, which can either raise of lower the bridge. There is also a ladder on either side if the bridge breaks for whatever reason.
The catacombs are built into a mountainside, holding the bones of many generations of natives. They are all mummified in respect, before being buried within the tomb. There are many sections of wooden scaffolding and ladders to reach areas that have been cut out of the rock for a body to be placed. There are lit torches inside, as well as baskets of fruit for offerings to the deceased. There are two stone statues guarding the main entrance, while a smaller entrance/exit is located at the rear of the tomb.
A winding path snakes down the mountain again, leading to either a second village or a continuation of the original which has just sprawled to the other side of the mountain. There is a waterfall at one end while the river flows in the middle of the village, flowing past the alter on either side. The houses here are the same as the others, built on stilts with either ladders or stairs to access them and being barren inside. The main part of this village is the sacrificial alter, either for animal or human sacrifices. It's a large stone alter in front of another large stone statue. There's many offerings around it, including fruit baskets and several other wicker containers.
Notes[]
- A metal chest can be found at the altar
- There's several hidden gear icons dotted around the map. If you activate all of them, it will cause a steam jet to fire out of the bottom of the statue at the alter as an easter egg.
- There's no loot on this map, other than many fruit baskets which give back a little health, so there is little point hanging around/combing back after Pure Blood is completed.
