The First Head of Cerberus is a medium difficulty side quest given to the Hero by Garett Grant in Dead Island.
Synopsis[]
The Hero must activate four loudspeakers in the Shanty Town.
Walkthrough[]
- Talk to Garett to start the quest. You'll have probably just reached his recording studio to deliver the recording, so you'll be right next to him.
- Garett needs you to activate speakers across town so he can broadcast the message to anyone left alive and hiding that they can find help at the Church.
- The first speaker is right across the road, on the roof. However, a gang of punks have set up a base there and they're not kind to trespassers. They're all armed with pistols, so make sure to equip a firearm of your own before going to do battle with them. If you don't have one, kill one of them and take their gun.
- There's a ladder leading up to the roof. Quickly run across the road, ignore all zombies, and climb it. Hurry into cover and kill the punks as you move through.
- There'll be an open red control box on the speaker pole with a lever. Use the lever to activate the speaker. You'll know it's done when you hear Mother Helen speaking, as the recording will be playing.
- All the speakers are located on rooftops, or need a rooftop to access them. There's no more speakers on this block, so you'll have to drop down. Put away the gun and take out a melee weapon again to fight zombies.
- Return to the ground and make your way across the road again, following the minimap, until you reach a load of houses. There'll be some Walkers and Infected around here, but they're easily dealt with.
- There'll be a ladder on one of the houses which will allow you access to the rooftops again. If you look on the minimap for a house with a fast travel portal icon on it, you'll be in the same place as the ladder. Check the walls of the houses near the portal door to find the ladder and climb up it.
- Once on the roof, look for some planks that make a walkway across to a different block. You should see some speakers on their pole over it.
- Head over the planks to the speakers and you should see a ladder leading down to a fenced in area where the control panel is located. Quickly climb down the ladder and activate the speaker.
- You can stick to the rooftops for the third speaker, as they're connected to the roof you're currently on. Follow the minimap route to the other roof, since they're connected with plank walkways.
- Once on the block with the third speaker, take it slower. This roof has a load of walls on it making corridors and rooftop rooms, in which there are zombies hiding.
- There's a couple of Walkers hiding around, but they're small fry compared to the Thug that's defending the third speaker. The Thug shouldn't be too much of a problem, however, since it's usually alone. Take it out and activate the third speaker.
- If you're good at Dead Island parkour, you might be able to leap from rooftop to rooftop to reach the fourth and final speaker, however if you miss a jump you'll just take a load of unnecessary fall damage, so it might not be worth the risk if you're not confident in your own skills. The way across is over some scaffolding that has been randomly erected in the street. Try not to fall off as if you do, you'll take a bunch of fall damage and be on low health surrounded by zombies. There is, however, a ladder on the scaffolding for you to climb back up so you don't need to go all the way around again.
- If you're not good at jumping, you'll want to take the grounded route to reach the fourth speaker. Carefully make your way down to the road and make your way to the large scaffolding which is in the middle of the road. This is the scaffolding that you can use to jump across instead of taking the road. There's a lot of zombies in this part of town, however, so you'll want to be careful and have a good weapon while on the ground. There's a ladder to get up the scaffold then you can simply jump to the roof of the fourth speaker.
- This roof has another load of walls on it, but this time there's several Suiciders lurking in the corridors. Take time to listen for their rasp breathing sounds and pulsating noises they make from their explosive pressure. If you get startled by one, don't swing at it, simply back away to use one of the strategies on it.
- The final speaker is once again in one of the roof 'rooms' but instead of a Thug there's a Suicider instead. Keep your distance and take it out before turning on the speaker.
- You can now return to Garett all the way back at the recording studio. You can stick to the rooftops again as you make your way back, or you can drop to the road and stay on terra firma to get to Garett.
- Either way, jump over the wall surrounding the recording studio, talk to Garett and finish the quest.
Notes[]
- You'll know when you're close to a speaker as you'll hear it making static noises, indicated that you're near one.
- There's a metal chest at the back of the recording studio. Make sure to loot it every time you come in, since it seems to often have some good loot in it.
- Another metal chest is found in the punk's shack on the roof where the first speaker is located.
- One more is located in the fenced off area where the control panel for the second speaker is.
- There's 2 molotov cocktails in the punk's base where the first speaker is.
- You can find the house where Cho is while getting to the second and third speaker. This will allow you to continue Kwan's side quest Blood Ties once you complete this one.
Glitches[]
- The Thug at the third speaker cannot get over the step to leave the area, making it an easy kill. With Patch 1.3 this is fixed sometimes (seen it trapped, seen it not trapped).
Trivia[]
- The title is a reference to the three-headed dog named Cerberus from Greek mythology.
