The Eagle Has Landed is the first main quest in the Ryder White's Campaign DLC in Dead Island.
Synopsis[]
After the helicopter crashed, Ryder needs to get away and find the last known location of BIDF Unit 4 within Moresby.
Walkthrough[]
- The campaign starts with a cutscene showing Ryder being interviewed by one of his superiors. During this Ryder is asked if he is willing to do anything and kill anyone who threatens national security, which Ryder readily agrees. However, the last picture shown to him with this question is his wife and after hesitating, he reluctantly confirms. It then goes to Ryder being flown towards Moresby during the opening weeks of the outbreak, however while flying over, one of the helicopter pilots gets infected and attacks the other one, causing the helicopter to crash land in Queenscliffe.
- Upon getting control, Ryder asks if Unit 4 has evacuated yet and if not they can pick him up. However, the soldier on the radio tells him that they lost contact with Unit 4 so Ryder decides to go investigate their last known position. Head forwards around the helicopter to see a ladder in front of you. There's nothing of note down here so climb the ladder. At the top, make a jump over the gap and then another one through the smoke from the helicopter.
- On this ledge you'll find an open toolbox with some mod parts in it. Take them as they'll come in useful later, then make another jump over to a doorway.
- There's more mod items here as well as a crowbar. Pick this up, it's very important!
- Go through the doorway and duck under the wood to your right to get back outside to another ledge. If you fell off at any point before this, there's some food here for you to heal up with, as well as a wrench, so take that as well.
- Go along the wooden boards to find a van that you can use to get down to the floor. Before that, jump over to the other side and collected the shocking crowbar mod. This will be very useful!
- Go down to the street via the van and head forwards. You'll encounter a few scattered zombies but can also find a diving knife and wrench along the way. Remember Ryder doesn't have a lot of stamina for fighting, so take any opportunity you can to recover, such as when a zombie is on the floor trying to get up.
- Nearing the end of the alleyway you find a group of four Walkers, which is a problem with your current terrible weapons and low health/stamina. Try and prevent the ones getting up off the floor from doing so with a few quick kicks, then deal with the ones currently up, as they're more of a threat right now. Once they're dead, you can deal with the ones trying to get up.
- There's two Suiciders also in the area who will be drawn to you. Don't get caught in their explosions, but you can use them to your advantage to blow up the Walkers if you can lure them near them when they blow.
- Continue down the street, loot the open van and kill the two Walkers who will come for you.
- There's a fire hydrant spraying water where a bus crashed through the police barrier into it, but it gives you access to the rest of Moresby, or at least Queenscliffe. Inside the bus are some Walkers on the floor, but they're easy to deal with, as well as a metal baseball bat on the floor. Hiding behind the back door is another Walker, don't get grabbed by it. While here, Ryder is informed via the soldier on the radio that he's close to the area where they paradropped weapons for Unit 6.
- You can see the flare just across the road, so exit the bus and head for it. You'll likely recognise this area from the many times you passed through it in the main game.
- Heading towards the building with the drop on it, an Infected will run at you. Thankfully it's only one so kill it and run for the ladder. You can usually grab and climb it before the Walkers reach you from nearby. Be sure to grab the homemade machete from the corpse between the bus and building as you go past.
- Loot the drop for the main weapons, another crowbar but more importantly two grenades. Don't use them yet, however, instead just drop down and kill the Walkers with your normal weapons.
- Continue down the street towards the Church. Before you go, down the side street on your left is a van with an open crate in front of it. Loot the crate for some molotovs and another weapon.
- The road to the Church is barricaded off, but there's another way to it. Go down the side onto the grass and go parallel to the wall. Emily will radio Ryder about the outbreak happening in the prison, but Ryder tells her 'no heroics' and to get on the first rescue helicopter that gets there. You'll find a workbench and loads of mod parts as well as a spiteful crowbar under a building. Use this on the workbench to make a shocking crowbar and full upgrade it. You'll need it. Head through the gap in the wall behind you to continue towards the Church.
- Here's the first place you can use your shocking crowbar. Two Infected will run at you from the end of the street. Kill them, then explode the suicider. Kill two more Walkers that are midway down the street, then another two Infected will jump over the wall to the graveyard. Kill them too, then continue around to the right to go further down the street, as you can't access the Church itself.
- Here, in the street, you'll find what's left of Unit 4. You'll also be attacked from behind by an Infected. Ryder will radio base and tell them he's found the remains of the unit. They drove into an ambush and their attackers stole everything, including the explosives they were carrying. Base stresses to Ryder that he has to get those explosives back by tracking down and eliminating the group, who base determines likely to be one of the local raskol gangs who are using the outbreak as an opportunity to loot and kill anything they can find. This ends the quest.
Notes[]
- Ryder doesn't have a lot of health or stamina, so try and recover it during a fight as much as possible.
- There's a lot of health items around like snacks and energy drinks to compensate for Ryder's low health and lack of health regeneration like Sam B has.
- There's also a plentiful amount of melee weapons around, even if they're all of common rarity.
- Be sure to look around while travelling, as there's stacks upon stacks of mod items around, so loot them all as you'll likely want them later.
Trivia[]
- The name is a reference to the famous quote when the Apollo 11 Lunar Excursion Module (LEM), or simply Lunar Lander, touched down on the Moon, 20th July 1969.
- The area in which the helicopter crash lands does not appear on the original Moresby Map. This is because this part was created after the game was first released.
