The Darkness is a medium difficulty side quest given to the Hero by Cecil in Dead Island: Riptide.

Synopsis[]

Restore power to the Hospital.

Walkthrough[]

  • Make your way to the Makeshift Hospital after starting up this quest. It's located not too far from the Old Town Cinema, in front of the square where the Church is and next to the concert Plaza. A Screamer normally haunts the area in front of it, so be careful!
  • The Hospital is relatively easy to spot, as it's got a large white banner over the door which has a red cross on it.
  • Enter the Hospital and go up to the gate covering some stairs up and talk to the intercom next to it. A man will answer and ask you to come upstairs, unlocking the door. Follow the stairs up and find a man near the rear of the corridor.
  • He'll explain that he's a doctor named Cecil for the Makeshift Hospital but since the power went out they've been living in darkness, and he can't perform his operations in the dark. He needs you to go into the basement and restore the power.
  • Go back to the entrance of the Makeshift Hospital and go to the right, where a set of double doors leads to some stairs to the basement. The doors are barred with a piece of wood, so hold the action button to remove the barricade, the proceed down.
  • It's pitch black down there, so flashlight usage and flares are going to be a necessity to see.
  • There's a lot of zombies here and you need to kill them all before the power switch is accessible, no exceptions.
  • There's a load of Walkers down here, as well as a Thug. While the Walkers are easy to deal with, they're packed together and it's very claustrophobic down there, especially in the dark, so don't get too complacent while clearing it out.
  • Once they're all dead, locate the power switch. It appears as a red destination flag on your minimap, so you don't need to spend ages trying to find it.
  • Bad news. Once again, a fuse has blown and the power won't turn on when you flick the switch.
  • Return to Cecil to give him the bad news. He directs you to a store near the military base named Greg's, but warns you that the owner 'is a big of an ass'.
  • From here you have several options with how to reach it. The easiest way is to fast travel to the military base if you have it unlocked, since the store is literally right across from the entrance to it. The other option is to fast travel to the Old Town Cinema and walk to it from there. It's a simple walk from the Cinema, but you'll need to watch your back, since Henderson is dangerous.
  • However you reach it, the shop is in a far corner, behind an attempt at a barricade.
  • Looking through the window, you can see the owner is a bit more of an ass now, as he's an angry Infected, trapped in his shop.
  • The door is locked, so you'll need to break it open and then kill the owner inside. The fuse is located in a red box at the back of the shop. Make sure to loot the place before you leave.
  • Once you have the fuse, either fast travel or walk back to the Hospital.
  • Once in the Hospital, head back to the basement to the fuse and switch panel. Place the fuse in the slot then turn on the switch again. Thankfully, this does it and the power is restored.
  • Return to Cecil to talk to him and claim your reward.

Notes[]

  • All the zombies in the basement are marked with a red skull icon on your minimap, so you can keep track of them more easily.
  • You can find John Morgan's Diary #7 on the reception counter when you first enter the lobby.
  • There's a cash register in the shop that will give you a decent amount of cash.
  • This is one of the two quests you need to complete to unlock the achievement/trophy First Do No Harm.
