Surplus is a hard difficulty side quest given to the Hero by Miya in Dead Island: Riptide.
Synopsis[]
Miya knows about an abandoned smuggler's bunker and wants the Hero to bring her whatever they can find.
Walkthrough[]
- Talk to Miya to start the quest.
- She tells the hero about an abandoned bunker she knows of that was used by smugglers. She wants you to go there and find her a weapon, a firearm, stating that she prefers "a Magnum or a Colt".
- The bunker is located in Dr. Kessler's Biosphere, so if you can, make your way to either the Santa Maria Mission or Mataka Village, depending on where you are in the story, and fast travel to the Biosphere.
- If you haven't been either place yet, take the boat (again, if you can depending on your place in the story) all the way through the waterways to end up on a beach. Make your way through the zombies to enter the Biosphere's grounds.
- However you reach it, the bunker is in the far left corner of the Biosphere's grounds, so you need to make your way to the bunker. Seems easy right? No!
- There's mines lining the path, so you need to use some alternate methods to get across. From the main entrance of the facility, head to the left and go up an old path. From here you can go over a rock arch to the other side, where you can drop back onto the path.
- Up ahead there's more mines but also a tree trunk which you can use to walk up and over the mines. Keep up high until you reach the bunker entrance.
- There's more mines inside the bunker, so be careful where you stand. You can always hear mines as they make a beeping noise when you get near them. A green search circle will appear once you're inside the bunker, making you look for Miya's weapon.
- There's a workbench in the back room of the bunker if you need it, while climbing the ladder to the upper parapet of the bunker has your destination. There's big wooden crate near the table which you can open. This has a gun inside it. Take it to make the search circle disappear.
- Exit the bunker and make your way back. Remember, the path is still mined, so jump up the stack of crates next to the bunker to reach a rock outcrop. There's some vines here you can climb to reach the log. From here, you can make your way back.
- Once again, you can either fast travel if you can, or make your way back on foot/by vehicle to Miya.
- Once you reach her, talk to her to hand over the gun and get your reward.
Trivia[]
- Although the player can receive the quest after completing the side quest Proximity, the bunker is inaccessible until after completing the main quest The Ritual.
