An example of a super weapon
Super Weapons are a type of weapon featured in Dead Island: Retro Revenge. There are a total of 3 super weapons available in the game, however only 1 is accessible from the beginning. At the end both world 1 and world 2, a new super weapon is unlocked to use and can be swapped between stages, much like the magic power. The super weapon is seen at the top left of the screen under the health bars and starts with only a fourth of it full up. To increase the amount of super weapon charge, glowing enemies need to be killed in a row. If all glowing enemies are killed without one being missed, the bar will fill up an additional fourth.
The super weapon is an emergency ability first and foremost. If getting swamped by enemies or on low health, the super weapon can be activated and instantly kill anything in front of it. It can also break barriers, with the exception of the Shirt Cannon, so Max does not need to change lanes to avoid many attacks. While the super weapon is out, Max becomes invulnerable and gains a speed boost of about 40%. Also, unlike magic, the super weapons only hit enemies in their own lanes. Enemies either above or below will be unaffected by the super weapon. At max charge, the weapon lasts for exactly 22 seconds when fully charged which can get you through about 25% of a stage, depending on the stage length.
Super Weapon types[]
There are a total of 3 super weapons, of which one is unlocked at the beginning of the game. After clearing stage 1-8 and 2-8, a further super weapon will be unlocked up to a total of 3.
Weed Whacker[]
The first super weapon available is a modified weed whacker that has two counter rotating saw blades attached to it. The weapon is close range only, however it can break down barriers as well as detonate Suiciders, something important to note, as Max will not be close enough to the explosion to cause harm.
Sawblade Crossbow[]
This weapon is unlocked at the end of the cutscene that happens after beating stage 1-8. Unlike the weed whacker, the crossbow can hit enemies from far away which is to be expected. However, it does require reloading between each shot, so some planning is needed to take out enemies in all lanes with the limited fire rate. Like the weed whacker, it can destroy barriers with its projectiles. The sawblade projectiles do not dissapear after hitting an enemy or barrier.
Shirt Cannon[]
Unlike the other two, the shirt cannon has not been modified in any way, Instead, it is a rapid fire super weapon with over double the rate of fire of the crossbow. The shirt cannon is unlocked upon finishing stage 2-8. Unlike the other two, the shirt cannon cannot destroy barriers. Although the shirt cannon sports superior fire rate for ranged kills, compared to the sawblade crossbow, each shirt dissapears after hitting an enemy.
Notes[]
- Super weapon charge is not carried between stages. If you finish one stage with full super weapon charge, you will not keep this for the next stage.
- Using a super weapon will automatically double your current Score Multiplier for the duration that the weapon is active. Wait until a 4x multiplier has been reached to get the maximum multiplier possible (8x).
- The Shirt Cannon does not deal damage, therefore denying the player the points for damaging opponents. Perfect hits are still acquired for each kill.
- The super weapon projectiles can still hit enemies after Max puts the weapon away. These kills do not profit off the doubled score multiplier as it will have ended by then.
