I don't know what these assholes have been eating, but avoid that toxic stuff they're spitting.
Cliff Calo's thoughts on seeing a Spitter

The Spitter is a special infected encountered in Escape Dead Island and Dead Island: Epidemic. It is first encountered at the airfield on Narapela, when Cliff Calo has to defend Xian Mei as she turns off the airfield alarm and gets into the security office. It is later encountered across the island. It is also encountered by the survivor groups fighting on Amaia, scattered amongst the regular zombies.

Overview[]

Spitters are another type of ranged zombie, similar to Floaters, as they keep at range and spit toxic substances from their mouths. However, the Spitter is far more agile than the Floater, as well as being far thinner due to how they were created. Spitters also act as a sort of 'lookout' for nearby zombies, as Spitters are often encountered on higher vantage points overlooking wide areas, so they they can both spot targets easier and also run away safer than if they were on low ground,

Appearance[]

DIE-Spitter

Spitters appear to be regular zombies, like a Shambler, which has undergone sever mutation. It is hunched over, with most of its clothes missing and causing it to stumble around off-balanced. It has large, pulsating lime green acid boils covering its back, which is where it gets its ammunition from to attack survivors, as well as acid streaming down from its mouth and face. It also doesn't wear shoes and the only clothing remaining is a pair of shorts and a belt.

Behaviour[]

Spitters in Escape Dead Island

The Spitter likes to keep to high ground, where it can get a good view of its surroundings. Combining this with its surprisingly good eyesight, the Spitter acts as a good lookout or scout for other zombies in the area. Upon spotting a survivor, a Spitter will proceed to hawk up a load of acid into its mouth before spitting it a tremendous distance towards the survivor. The Spitter also alerts nearby zombies to a survivor when it does this, further reinforcing the idea of it being a good lookout for zombies. For as long as it can see the survivor, or see where they went, the Spitter will continue to fire acid at the person or their last location in the hopes of burning them with the acid to the point where they are too weak to fight or run away anymore. At this point, if the Spitter is alone, it can go to the survivor and either turn or eat them. If the Spitter is with zombies, they will descend on the survivor while the Spitter remains where it is, looking out for more prey.

Notable Spitters[]

Other Spitters[]

Shadow Spitter[]

Shadow Spitters are Shadow Zombies made up in Cliff's mind. They will act like a Spitter. They have 2/3 more health than the regular Spitter.

Strategy[]

  • Firearms are the best at taking down Spitters, as they are often encountered too far away to get in melee range. Use a pistol, silenced pistol or assault rifle to take them down from range and, preferably, silently if using the silenced pistol.
  • It is possible to use a stealth kill to take them out easily, though that does require working your way behind them.
  • When you find a Spitter, or think you hear one nearby, keep to the shadows and cover as much as possible. Spitters have good eyesight so will easily spot you from a distance.
  • They're relatively weak, so a few hits from any melee weapon takes them down easily.
  • If you are out of ammo, sprinting to get in melee range is the best strategy, as the Spitter will have the advantage if you just sit around outside of melee range.
  • A Spitter is first priority, as while fighting other zombies, the Spitter will continue to harass, damage and distract you, ultimately hastening your demise if you can't deal with it quickly.
  • Spitters lead their shots meaning a change in direction after you hear them fire will usually be enough to dodge their attack.

Note that keycard carrying Spitters have higher health and damage.

    • Bite = 3
    • Spit impact (excluding splash) = 3
    • Spit splash (also applied on direct impact) = 2
    • spit DOT = 2
  • Infected Cliff Calo has 165 HP and regens 3.2 HP per second when not damaged for a while
  • His attacks deal the following damage:

    • Spit impact (excluding splash) = 3
    • Spit splash (also applied on direct impact) = 2
