Smooth Sailing is the first mission of Escape Dead Island after the prologue and before One Less Boat
Synopsis[]
Cliff Calo and his friends sail in to Narapela to investigate rumours on the island about GeoPharm.
Walkthrough[]
- You are placed on Cliff's father's boat when it bumps into a floating orange box, where Cliff and his friends Devan Mavropani and Linda Waterson are sailing towards Narapela on a mission to document the island to write a journalism report on what GeoPharm are doing, and hopefully expose the nefarious deeds taking place on the island.
- You take control of Cliff at the prow of the boat, where he's been watching the island get closer. Linda calls out to him, asking if he's still with them. Turn around and head to the stern of the boat where Devan is at the helm and Linda sprawled on one of the seats.
- You need to talk to Linda to continue, but Devan has a few sentences he can say before he repeats the last one, so talk to him for a bit if you want, then talk to Linda.
- Cliff sits down and, after some silence, steals the notes she's writing on a clipboard. After briefly reading them, Cliff hands them back and to make amends, agrees to get Linda's voice recorder from the cabin.
- The recorder is on a table in the middle of the cabin, so just walk in there and take it. Despite being told not to, Cliff listens to it and it plays a short recording of Linda talking about zombies on Banoi and them going to document it using Cliff's father's boat.
- Return up to Linda and talk to her to hand over the recorder. She goes inside to record some notes. You can follow her and talk to her if you want but in a minute you'll be in there anyway so you might as well wait.
- Pick up the camera at the back of the boat. It's out on display, so it's hard to miss it. A short scene plays where Cliff tries to make the situation more interesting, but Linda shoots it down and says that no military blockade or quarantine has been in sight, so if there ever was a blockade it's gone now.
- You can take some pictures on the ship to get used to the camera. For snapshots towards to the achievement, a green outline will show up around the object which will count, so make sure to get used to bringing out the camera and looking around.
- Head into the cabin and take a picture of Linda. A green outline will appear around her when in camera mode and a red one will appear if you're out of focus. Use the focus on the camera or move around until it goes green, then take a picture.
- Another cutscene will play where Cliff takes a picture of her posing, then they're called by Devan to the deck, where he's seen land. Linda notes that it doesn't look like Banoi, for Cliff to then reveal that they're not going to Banoi. The camera then pans out, shows the title and a few shots of the island we know as Narapela. It then shows Cliff and his friends arriving on a beach via an inflatable orange rubber dingy with the boat anchored in the background. This ends the mission.
Notes[]
- This is the shortest mission in the game.
- This is one of the few missions to not feature zombies or Cliff hallucinating.
New Game + Differences[]
- If you watch all the way through the credits, the mission will automatically start except Cliff will have his damaged clothes and body. He returns to clean, fresh clothes however if you quit and continue from the menu after getting control on the boat.
- Inside the cabin, the door to the right of the stairs up is now accessible. You can open it to retrieve a medkit and katana.
