The Shillelagh is a blunt weapon in Dead Island: Riptide. It can be sold by a select few Merchants or found in Metal chests or on killed Zombies.
Overview[]
The Shillelagh is the only new 2 handed blunt weapon that isn't a variation of an already existing weapon such as the Sledgehammer, though this doesn't make it all that different. Similar to other heavy blunt weapons, the shillelagh has relatively low damage but with a lot of force and durability at the expensive of using a lot of stamina. As such, it's not really a weapon to be used on fast moving enemies such as Infected or Screamers, as their speed and attack speed are far too quick for this weapon to use. However, slower moving enemies like Wrestlers or Thugs are perfect for a weapon like this, as are hordes of Walkers where their slow speed allows the similarly slow attack speed of the shillelagh to be offset. The main stand out feature of this weapon, however, is the amount of mods it can apply. Unlike the sledgehammer, the shillelagh can accept a variety of bleed and fire mods, while the sledgehammer primarily applies electric and critical mods, meaning if a large, 2 handed blunt weapon is needed for fire or bleed mods, the shillelagh is a good alternative to use.

Trivia[]
- The shillelagh in real life is a club that has Irish origins, crafted from a blackthorn stick, though it wasn't used as a combat weapon, rather to 'settle disputes in a gentlemanly manner'.
