“These are actual, in the flesh zombies. The Infection is real - this is the Proof!”
— Cliff Calo's thoughts upon first seeing a Shambler
The Shambler is a zombie encountered in Escape Dead Island. It is the first zombie that Cliff Calo fights in Escape and the first type of zombie he sees on Narapela. They function very similar to Walkers, indeed they are basically just renamed Walkers.
Overview[]
Shamblers are your basic zombie enemies. Like the Walkers from the main games, Shamblers are slow, dumb and easy to deal with. They're infected people who have undergone the full zombie process and are typical of stereotypical zombies. They are dumb, easy to avoid and if spotted, easy to deal with. They die to most weapons Cliff can get a hold of and are only really dangerous when in large groups. Unfortunately, it's pretty rare to find one alone, as there's usually another one within earshot.
Appearance[]
Shambers are your typical zombie. They look like people from a distance, but when you get anywhere close to them you can see their differences. While they still wear the remains of their old clothes, they're usually covered in blood and guts. Their skin is discoloured and shows signs of the bite or cut that infected them when they were alive. Their hands have turned into claws while blood covers their mouth and hands from where they've been eating bodies. Their eyes are sunk into their eye sockets and are covered in a milky film due to their death.
Behaviour[]
Shamblers are not clever and as such will rarely sneak up on anyone half awake. They emit groaning and moaning sounds as they shuffle about. If they hear a noise nearby, they will stand up (if not already) and stay still to listen to the noise. This is usually accompanied by some slow turnings of the head as they look around. If the noise persists for long enough, the Shambler will realise it might be food and start to shuffle over to the source of the noise. If that noise is something living, they will emit a moan and move forwards at their shambling top speed. Upon reaching their prey, they will attempt to scratch and bite the living creature to either infect or kill them. The Shambler might also attract the attention of other Shamblers as it goes past, leading to a small horde being built up if not dealt with.
Other Shamblers[]
Shadow Shambler[]
Shadow Shamblers are Shadow Zombies made in Cliff Calo's mind they will act like a Shambler. They're the most common shadow zombie. They have 81.5% more health then their non-shadow variant.
Strategy[]
- Shamblers are easiest to deal with silently without alerting them. Sneaking up behind one and killing it with either the screwdriver or army knife is an easy way to neutralize their threat.
- The best way to deal with a group of them is to turn on a radio if it's nearby and wait for them to congregate at the noise. This will distract them so they will not notice you passing by unless you literally run into them.
- Shamblers are very stupid and if their line of sight is broken, they will instantly start to forget about what they saw. If left for long enough, they will completely forget whatever they saw and go back to where they were like nothing has happened.
- They're very weak enemies, capable of being killed by just a few hits from a good melee weapon such as an axe or katana.
- Because they're basic enemies that are weak and pose little threat, using a firearm on them such as the pistol or assault rifle is ill-advised, since the ammo is rare, limited and best saved for harder enemies such as the Spitter.
- Due to their lack of a working brain, they can easily be lured into environmental hazards, killing them without getting your hands dirty.
Damage and Health[]
- Shamblers have 22.03 HP.
- Their attacks deal the following damage:
- Quick hit = 2
- Wind-up hit = 3
- Bite = 2
- Hug = 2,14 DPS -> minimum of ~3.3
- Shadow Shamblers have 40 HP.
- Their attacks deal the following damage:
- Quick hit = 4
- Wind-up hit = 6
- Bite = 5
- Hug = 2.0 DPS -> minimum of ~3.02
Notes[]
- Taking a picture of a Shambler with the Camera gives Snapshot 6.
- If a Shambler comes up to attack Cliff from behind, there is a chance that they will grab onto him and try to bite him, requiring mashing a button to throw them off.
- There is also a random chance Shamblers will attempt to grab Cliff shortly after receiving a hit from him.
- Shamblers cannot be knocked down while performing their grab animation.
Trivia[]
- Even though Shamblers are the first zombie type that Cliff encounters, they are technically the second zombie introduced in Escape, as the Infected was introduced in the prologue.
