Sandy Cave entrance

The entrance to the cave on Pearl Sands beach

Sandy Cave is a Dead Zone located in the Flooded jungle and featured in Dead Island: Riptide. It is one of the many dead zones scattered around the game and is found at the far end of Pearl Sands beach.

Layout[]

This dead zone is likely the first dead zone you'll enter, albeit accidentally most likely. Because you wash up on Pearl Sands at the beginning of the game, you'll naturally explore and upon finding a place to enter, you'll want to enter it. This is a big mistake as you'll just have a knife and, if you have the DLC installed, a BBQ Mod shovel! Luckily, this isn't a 'true' dead zone so there's no boss thankfully, but it's easy to die if you enter at the start of the game! Like several other dead zones in the jungle, it's essentially a large cave. You start in a short entrance tunnel before exiting out into a larger cavern which has torches illuminating it and a large statue in the middle. At the back of the cavern is another tunnel which is slightly longer than the entrance one and ends in a shrine which has some skulls and various other bits.

Strategy[]

Thankfully, this dead zone doesn't have a boss to fight so the strategy is fairly straight forwards. There's no zombies in the entrance, just some bodies, but there are some Walkers in the main cavern as well as a Thug. If you have a sonic pulse grenade, throw one near the middle of the room and back off. This will kill all the Walkers in the room, including those playing dead on the floor, leaving you with just the Thug. Don't get too distracted with him right now, though, as the sonic boom will have alerted the Infected and Walkers in the back tunnel. Kill them as they reach you, then you can deal with the Thug.

If you're entering at the start of the game, or near it, then you'll likely not have any sonic pulse grenades or anything like it. However, if you've completed the first few main quests of the game to save Paradise Survival Camp, you'll likely have the flare gun and some ammo, as well as a few more weapons. Have your best weapon on hand and your flare gun equipped. Headshot the Thug with your flare gun as much as you can before the Walkers near you. Run away from the Thug and deal with the Walkers as fast as you can. You'll likely also attract the Infected, so take them out as soon as they appear. Then deal with the Walkers before taking on the Thug, unless he's low health in which case kill the Thug then clean up the Walkers. After either strategy, loot the place before leaving.

Notes[]

  • Because this isn't a 'proper' dead zone and there's no boss to fight, there's not a lot of good loot, just whatever is on the Thug and in the back tunnel.
  • There's a single metal chest at the very back next to the shrine at the back of the tunnel.
  • There's some fruit at the feet of the shrine if you need health.
