The Rifle Ammo Recipe is a weapon mod featured in Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. Unlike other mod blueprints, when used at a workbench, it does not create a new weapon but rather creates ammo for the rifle.

Overview[]

The blueprint is exactly as it says on the tin, where it will give rifle ammo upon being crafted. It's a very useful mod for someone like Purna Jackson, who has an affinity to firearms and will want to use them as much as possible. The mod isn't acquired very early in the game, not being until Act III when it becomes available to collect, so until then rifles and their usage will be scarce. It's relatively cheap to produce in terms of mod items, but it's got a relatively high base cash cost. It does however create 15 rifle bullets, more if Purna has some of her skill tree filled out, making rifles more viable to use constantly, especially if starting a new campaign after previously completing it with a character.

The problem with the mod comes with a certain mod item used, the Bleach. Bleach is one of the rarer mod items, being sold by very few Merchants and having no natural spawn locations, so any bleach supply will be extremely limited, especially if planning to create something like the Striker Rifle Mod which uses Bleach to craft it. In addition, rifles are the second most difficult firearm to get a hold of, with very few enemies carrying it and only a few merchants selling it, so the likely hood of having a rifle as a primary weapon is low. In contrast to the weapon's rarity, several merchants actually sell Rifle Ammo themselves, including Wes Tweddle at the Bloodbath Arena who is easy to access from any Fast Travel map and a good alternative to save your bleach supply. In Dead Island: Riptide, by the time the blueprint is found, you will be in Henderson where a plethora of ammo can be found not only at nearly every Safe House but also on tables scattered around the city. This makes crafting ammo using the blueprint rather useless, as you can easy just travel back to the group's safe house and restock on the free ammo there. Overall, it's a useful blueprint to have, especially for Purna, but due to the scarcity of Rifles in the first place and the relative abundance of naturally spawning rifle ammo in both games, the bleach cost for creating just 15 bullets may not be enough to offset it.

I would like to share the knowledge I gained years ago and that unfortunately may have vital application under the current circumstances. The notes you will find below will allow you to crate rifle rounds. I'm aware that you probably won't find much of it on the island but still...
In Dead Island, the mod is given by Claire at the Overpass Camp as a reward for completing her side quest Little Prince.
In Dead Island: Riptide, the mod is on a table in the comms centre of the Henderson Military Base, the room where the radio is located that allows you to contact Frank Serpo at the end of the main quest Militarized Zone.

  • This is the most expensive ammo blueprint out of the three at $750.
  • The mod gives the same amount of bullets as a box of Small Rifle Ammo, being +15 bullets or half a magazine.
