Prologue is the prologue mission of Escape Dead Island. It takes place before the main game and before the outbreak on Banoi. It leads into the first proper mission, Smooth Sailing.
Synopsis[]
Investigate the lab and find the mole. Once you've found them, get the information and escape the facility.
Walkthrough[]
- You start with a short cutscene showing the lab in ruins with zombies everywhere. The lights are on emergency lighting, with every room wrecked and red warning beacons flashing.
- You take control of Kilo 2, a secret operative in contact with Xian Mei, who is trying to get a mole out of the GeoPharm lab who has vital information on uncovering the true research being conducted in the labs.
- Make you way through the rooms as you follow the path. There's no branching paths or things to find, since this is the tutorial of the game. It teaches you how to move, look around and crouch.
- Make your way through the complex finding out that it's been overrun by something. You enter another room where you're introduced to the Infected.
- Crouch through the ventilation duct on the floor to reach the other side of the blockage. Use your army knife to stealth kill the zombie. If you fail this and the zombie notices you, you can just use the katana on your back to kill it.
- Exit the room and follow the corridor until you reach a severed arm holding a phone. This will alert the few zombies in front of you to your presence. The zombies will come for you, but your katana is very powerful and capable of killing them in three hits. Dodge if they try and hit you and kill them. One will climb out of a vent in the wall, so kill it too.
- Go through the door to your right and you'll be in a large room with live electrical wires dangling from the roof, electrocuting one zombie, leaving you with two more. If you're quick, you can take them down silently, but otherwise hack them up with your katana as normal.
- There's a door at the end of the room, but if you try and use it you'll need a keycard.
- Instead, go the middle of the room where a door is your right. Go through it.
- This room has a difficult zombie to kill which has the keycard on it. You can tell which one it is because it has a glowing keycard on its thigh.
- This one is tougher, so you need to use strategy for it, because you can't brawl it and win. Kill all the basic zombies first, while dodging when the keycard zombie. Once it's alone, you can take it out pretty easily. One easy way of having enough space is to back out of the small room and fight it in the larger open room, so you can easily dodge it.
- Once you have the keycard, you can either go through the other room and kill the two zombies there, or head straight to the keycard door.
- Go through the door and make your way through it again. The security cameras still work, so someone is watching you.
- Keep moving until you reach a section where you crouch under some fallen air ducts. Something will throw a large box through the window, but you can't see what did it.
- In front of you is some pistol ammo, a dead guard and the silenced pistol. This is very handy for the next section.
- There's some red explosive barrels in front of you and some more pistol ammo. Collect the ammo and use the pistol to blow up the barrels in front of the cracked section of wall.
- Head through the wall and head round to your left. There's a way down at the far side, but a zombie is up top and two more at the bottom. If you're quiet you can sneak kill the zombie near to you and use the valve to kill one of the zombies down below. However, your new pistol can easily deal with them anyway.
- Go down the stairs and go through the door at the bottom.
- You'll be in a corridor with a zombie part way down. Use your pistol to kill it. When you have, a zombie will run in from the end of the corridor but you can kill that too.
- Go down the corridor and look for a door at the end. Activate it to play a cutscene.
- The cutscene shows the mole on a phone call with someone. Kilo 2 sneaks up and kills the mole, grabs any information he can, including a USB drive, and talks to the person on the phone. He is revealed to be Charon, who is working for an organisation that the mole mentions is the Palm Garden Order. Kilo 2 demands answers, but Charon doesn't reveal anything and instead it shows the whole lab overrun by zombies, with Kilo 2 witnessing the zombies escaping into the jungle, killing people. He returns to the room with the mole but some zombies burst through the opposite door. Here is where you gain back control.
- You can try and use your pistol, but your katana is more suitable for multiple zombies. Kill them and loot the pistol ammo on a desk in the room before heading through the door.
- There's a few zombies here, but you can easily headshot them with the pistol without being detected. Make your way through the room, avoiding the electrical hazards, to find two more feasting on a body. Again, some pistol shots from range can kill them without you being in danger. While you're there, make sure to shoot the bodies on the floor, as they come alive if you get close.
- There's some pistol ammo in the corner, pick it up before heading through the door. Once again there's a zombie at the end of a long corridor, but kill it with the pistol. As you get closer, kill the zombie playing dead on the floor and the one that comes out of a vent, then continue to the end of the corridors, which lead upwards.
- There's more zombies in the room you enter, but again pistol them dead. There's a few explosive barrels here, but they're not needed. You'll need to mash a button to get through the double doors at the end, but once you're through, you need to kill another keycard zombie.
- Because you can't get to the zombie, you need to use the radio on the table to get its attention so it crawls through the vent. Kill it while it's coming through for an easy kill. There's another zombie that appears in the room, so don't get caught off guard. Get the keycard and go through the door.
- You'll be at a long corridor with a load of zombies in it. You don't have enough ammo to kill them all, so take out your katana and start swinging! Make your way to the corridor junction and go left, towards a double door at the end.
- Once though, you're free of zombies. There's a partially opened door to some toilets, and once activated, another cutscene will play.
- It shows Kilo 2 entering the bathroom to stash the USB. After he's done so, he contacts Xian to tell her where he's stashed it. Before he can, however, something comes through the door and it fades to black when Rob is presumably killed by the thing off-screen. It then shows a slow loading screen pan of the island before cutting to Cliff and his friends on his dad's boat, listening to the news as they make their way to Narapela.
Notes[]
- Due to this being the prologue, and that Kilo 2 dies at the end of it, there are no collectibles here.
- Also, you do not keep the pistol, katana or any ammo you still had at the end of it.
- You never see the big zombie that kills Kilo 2 in the prologue.
