The Prison Showers, called the Abandoned Shower Room in-game, is a location in the Prison featured in Dead Island. It is the place where all the prisoners go to clean and is only encountered at the very end of the game. During the main quest Devil's Labyrinth, the Heroes are directed by Ryder White to head through the prison sewers to reach Cell Block C rather than arm the prisoners, like they were going too from Cell Block B. After travelling through the sewers, they find a ladder and climb up to arrive at the prison showers, where a massacre has taken place. There's bodies everywhere, so they quickly leave and find Jin and Yerema.[1]

It's revealed in the Ryder White's Campaign DLC that it was actually Ryder White who was responsible for the showers looking like that. He is informed by Kevin AKA Charon to clear out the shower room before the arrival of the Heroes. Upon reaching the shower room, the Colonel sees it's packed full of zombies. To clear it out, the Colonel uses any means necessary to kill them all, leaving the shower room in the state the heroes find it after arriving from the sewers.[2]

Layout[]

The shower room is, at its heart, two rectangular rooms connected by a door at either end and a thin walkway in the middle, separating the two blocks. Only one of the rooms have a manhole cover and drainage to the sewers, as this one has all the shower heads. The room itself is tiled for easy cleaning and has some short walls in the middle which hold additional shower heads. The heads themselves are basic, unpainted metal shower heads connected in pairs to a pipe leading up from the floor. The other room has a 'drying off area' as it were. It has two rows of sinks for hand washing, shaving and drying, which are placed in a walled area in the centre of the room. The rest of the room is open plan, with a door at the end leading to further into the prison. The floors are covered in blood and unrecognizable bodies litter the ground, the result of Ryder White clearing the way for the heroes. There's a couple of Walkers left playing dead on the ground, but there's only a couple of them.[3]

Outside, there are some stairways up to the guard walkways above the showers. There are some wide open spaces for the guards to patrol as well as a central bridge they can walk across to keep control. There's bars covering the openings which can be opened on hinges so the guards can fire out at the prisoners in case of a riot.[3]

Notes[]

  • There's absolutely nothing to loot when you arrive at the showers in the original Dead Island campaign due to Ryder White having already come through. There's a few propane tanks on the upstairs guard walkway, but otherwise there's nothing of note.

Trivia[]

  • In the original Dead Island campaign in the Definitive Edition, one of the stairways up to the walkway at the top of the showers has a completely missing wall. If you go up the stairway, you can find a wall completely missing. It's too high up to jump through, but you can see the void out of the map and if you jump you can see the corridor further along where Jin and Yerema are.[4]
