Orgone is a type of energy that is mentioned in the Haus and SoLA dlcs of Dead Island 2. It is a supernatural energy that is connected to all living things and a carrier medium for the autophage.
Background[]
Orgone is first mentioned in the journal "The Orgone Trail" with Konstantin and Lola Kondrat discovering it. They both discuss that all life have a mirror, soul, or "ghost" in the orgone field and that moving of this "ghost" could be the key to uploading a person's mind to the ark. It is also explained to be why the K-Prototype and other crossbows are able to deal more damage to zombies in "You're Buzzing My Kill, Man!" where it is explained that organisms can have explosive reactions to certain frequencies of orgone.
During the events of SoLA, the Slayers will encounter a new kind of OSK technology called the Mood Speakers which are powered by an object called an Orgone Ball which attracts zombies when powered and blows up when zombies near it are killed. The speakers are able to connect to people or zombies by the orgone and connect to their emotions with the damage to them being cause by a "panic feedback cascade" in the journal "Regulating Emotions".
Trivia[]
- The Mood Speakers are said to be playing a reply from some being and turned on the autophage through the orgone field, but it is unknown if the speakers where intentionally made to reach it or if the speakers where made just for entertainment.
- Orgone is a real world pseudoscientific concept conceived by psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich in the 1930s. Wilhelm Reich believed in a unified life force that was responsible for sexuality, and that orgasms were one of the effects of this life energy. Thus he named it orgone.
