One punch mode

The warning that appears when you are about to start a game with it enabled.

One Punch Mode is a special game mode added to the Definitive Editions of both Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. It is found when creating a new character, after selecting a character and seeing their backstory, under that there's an option to enable 'One Punch Mode'. It is available to each hero (including Ryder White and his campaign).

Activated[]

When activated it will allow you to kill basic zombies (Walkers, Infected and their subtypes like Drowners) usually in one hit, with zombies it doesn't kill it instead does massive damage. Below is a summary of everything changed in One Punch Mode.

  • Your combat stamina is unlimited, or at least regenerates so fast that it might as well be. This does not apply for your general endurance stamina used for running and jumping.
  • You fist swing speed has been greatly increased (around 5x faster at a guess).
  • Attacks dealt with your fists have a high chance to deal mod effects (either poison, electricity, fire or bleed), meaning zombies they don't kill outright (such as Thugs or Floaters) will have an effect put on them instead.
  • Kicking will always apply the impact mod effect, launching the zombies at high speed away from you, often killing them upon impact with a wall, if it didn't outright.
  • Zombies can sometimes one hit you instantly.

Notes[]

  • The mode again is only on the Definitive Editions, not the Original Versions.
  • It is single player only. It is not available for multiplayer.
  • This mode also disables Achievements and Trophies.
  • The mode only applies to your fists and kicks. If you use a normal weapon (such as a pipe or baseball bat) the game will play as normal, bar the kicking.
  • The mode is better to try for Ryders Campaign since the Ryder DLC doesn't have multiplayer or lots of Challenges like the normal Story.
