One Bridge Too Far is the third main quest in the Ryder White's Campaign DLC in Dead Island.
Synopsis[]
After retrieving the explosives, Ryder White must finish B.I.D.F Unit 4's task of blowing up the City Bridge
Walkthrough[]
- After retrieving the C4 explosives from the Police Station, Ryder radios base who congratulates him on getting them back, but then tells him that he must finish the job and blow up the bridge, to try and stop the infection. They suggest using the sewers as it should be safer.
- Next to the open garage door is a sewer grate behind some barrels. Jump over them and use the grate to enter the sewers. YOU CAN'T RETURN AFTER THIS, SO MAKE SURE YOU'VE TAKEN EVERYTHING YOU WANT FROM THE POLICE STATION BEFORE ENTERING THE SEWERS!
- In the sewers, turn left and head down the slope to a gap you can crouch under. Don't go all the way through, however, as two suiciders are waiting for you. Instead, hang at the entrance to lure them in. Back off and either shoot one of them or get one to blow itself up and back up. One will blow up the other. Once both are dead, head through and go left.
- After turning the corner, you'll be ambushed by around 4 Infected who will run at you from the front. Kill them and go forwards.
- You'll then be attacked by a further 5 or so Infected, from both in front and behind. There's also a Thug who will come for you, so don't forget about it.
- Kill the Infected first, then the Thug before heading forwards. There's a molotov next to a dead body, so loot that.
- Head to the right to start the gauntlet! Most of the sewers are chock full of Infected who will run at you from side tunnels. The Infected never stop spawning so the best you can do is keep pushing forwards. They'll come from both in front and behind you, so watch your back constantly. So much for the sewers being safer!
- Head to the right and over the steps where a Walker will be waiting for you. Kill the Walker, loot the few things here and continue forwards to a junction. Be careful of the suicider here.
- There's a few Walkers to your right (as well as the usual bombardment of Infected), so kill the Walkers before going left down a slope.
- The area down here is waterlogged and once down here, a load of Infected and Walkers will rush you from the front (as well as Infected from behind). This is a difficult situation and the best you can do is kill the Infected as quickly as possible before killing the Walkers. There's a valve on the left wall part way down the tunnel but it doesn't do much so don't bother with it.
- At the end of the tunnel, follow it right to a cross junction. There's a few Walkers who will come alive from the water as well as some more Infected who will come from the left at a water gate. Head left at the cross junction to see a short ramp up to a bar door. There's a Walker lying in wait to grab you here, so kill it before it can grab you, then go through the door at the end.
- Heading forwards, you're in one of the larger rooms of the sewers with three tunnels leading from it. Unfortunately, there's electrified water blocking them all, as well as a few Walkers, but you've got a brief respite from the Infected hordes! Kill the Walkers and go all the way to the left of the room, where some red pipes are.
- Go onto the pipes and follow them to the back wall. There's a walkway here which allows you to get to the other side where an electrical box is. Jump over the gap in the middle and turn off the electricity. Loot this side for a medkit and some incendiary grenades before going back to the floor.
- Unfortunately, turning off the electricity means zombies from the other side can get to you as well! From the left tunnel will come some Infected and Walkers, so kill them and go down that tunnel. It's the only one that's not blocked off.
- You'll be attacked by more Infected, as usual, but at the end is another cross junction. Head right here to reach the sewer exit. Don't bother going around to the left as it just loops around and there's a suicider and a bunch of Walkers here, so just stick going right to find a ladder up. You can now exit the sewers!
- Once outside, you'll be right next to the city bridge, next to the pump station, a place I'm sure we're all familiar with from the main game! However, some raskols are defending the bridge, not wanting its demolition. Ryder will radio base to tell them that hostile civilians are defending the bridge. Base authorises Ryder to use any means necessary to secure the bridge.
- Use cover and shoot back with your own firearms to slowly take them out. Near the beginning of the bridge is an army jeep with a mounted machine gun on it that you can use to clear out the front line of raskols, but you'll have to abandon it to get further down the bridge.
- At the end are around 3 punk leaders with masks on and auto rifles. They're tough to kill as a headshot won't kill them instantly due to their head protection, so use a few grenades if you still have them or your own rifle to kill them.
- Once they're all dead, Ryder will radio base again to tell them that the raskols are clear and he's starting the demolition.
- At the barricade, if you look to your left you'll see a metal stairway down to underneath the bridge. Go down it and kill the few Walkers on the walkway.
- Start planting the explosives on the bridge leg. There's a total of 4 to place and while doing so a few Walkers and Infected will spawn which can catch you off guard.
- Once all 4 charges have been set, go up the stairs again. Halfway up, a cutscene will play showing the charges blowing up and the bridge collapsing. You'll be placed on the dock next to the bridge looking at it. Ryder will radio base relaying the success of the demolition to them. Base will receive the transmission and confirm that they saw the destruction of the bridge. Then they tell Ryder that there's a gas station in the middle of zone 6, the centre of Moresby, that they can evacuate Ryder from off the roof. Ryder confirms and says he'll head over there. This ends the quest.
Notes[]
- In the beginning of the quest, there will be an endless respawning of Infected coming from unreachable tunnels and vents. It is advised that you don't stand around too long as one Infected will confront every several seconds.
- Try not to rush through the quest as the sewers are filled with hidden Suiciders.
- When you're at the city bridge, if you go down the road away from the bridge, some Infected will spawn and jump over the barriers to run at you. If you're quick (and lucky) enough, you can lure them to the bridge and they'll run after the punks rather than you, especially if you get onto a van or something high. However, this is dangerous and will only kill a few punks at most.
- In the Definitive Edition, all the punk leaders at the end of the bridge share the same character model, meaning they're all identical!
- You can find Andrew Meisner's second tape just after exiting the sewers at Riverside. There's the body of a soldier with an auto rifle and the tape next to him.
- For some reason, the alleyway that acts as a shortcut from the bridge to the pump station has been blocked off by a solid wall. Not a temporary barricade, but a full solid wall with graffiti on it like it's been there for years. It's not known why this wall is there to block it off rather than a temporary barricade.
Trivia[]
- The name of the quest is a reference to the 1977 war film, A Bridge Too Far in which Allied soldiers struggle to seize control of a bridge in order to allow the transportation of troops and supplies before the bridge is destroyed.
