Dead Island Wiki

On the Edge is a very hard difficulty main quest and the last quest of Act IV before the end of Dead Island. This is the final showdown, and as such, is supposed to be the final test of your skills. It contains the final boss and wraps up the story, leaving an open end which lead to the events of Dead Island: Riptide.

Synopsis[]

After fighting your way through the Prison Hospital, you arrive on the roof where you will have to fight Ryder White and prevent him from escaping the island with the vaccine.

Walkthrough[]

  • You arrive on the roof, where the quest automatically starts.
  • There's several BIDF soldiers behind defences, so take out a gun and fire back at them. Headshots will take them down instantly. Use cover to your advantage and don't try and engage in melee. They will easily be able to kill you if you charge at them.
  • If you don't have one, there's a rifle on one of the boxes near the door you came out of, as well as some ammo.
  • White will also shoot at you from the helipad, however don't bother shooting at him, as he's invincible until you get up there with him.
  • When you've killed all the soldiers, White will detonate some explosives on some doors and Infected will pour out of them at you.
  • They're a combination of poison and burning Infected, so watch your back. They won't stop so keep moving.
  • After the first wave, the gate leading to the helipad will be unlocked, however a Thug guards your way.
  • You can either choose to kill him or lead him away and just run around him.
  • When you reach the helipad, a cutscene will play. It shows White threatening the group, until Jin heads over to Emily and releases her. She goes and bites White, who is forced to shoot her. In retaliation, he shoots Jin twice who falls off the roof to her death. White then injects himself with the antidote, which causes him to mutate into a super zombie.
  • White is a difficult zombie to avoid, as he has the speed of an Infected and the health of several Thugs.
  • Use any weapon you want, or Rage mode if you have it to take him down quickly.
  • Don't throw weapons at him, as the game launches straight into the ending cutscene once he's dead, so any weapon you can't retrieve will be lost forever.
  • Once he's dead, the ending cutscene will play, leading you to the end of the game and the choice to play through it again with all your skills and weapons so far.
  • The cutscene shows the Heroes boarding the helicopter with Kevin and Yerema, where they discuss amongst themselves how nice it will be to get back to normalcy. However, Kevin assures the Heroes that the world is not the same and never will be the same. Sound bytes from a news programme plays, and the helicopter flies into the distance.

Notes[]

  • There's several wooden crates when you first arrive on the roof, chock full of ammo. Stock up using it, as you'll need it for the fight.
  • There's a rifle on a container if you don't have one. Take it, as you can't charge at the soldiers to get into melee.
  • Dotted around the roof are some blue barrels with C4 strapped to them. You can arm them with a timed fuse to detonate them if you wish.
  • White is invincible up until after the cutscene and his change to a zombie, so ignore him. Don't waste your ammo on him.
  • Near the back of the roof is a couple of small rooms where medkits an a workbench is located. When the Infected spawn in, hide in one of them. Because some of them are on fire, they will die from the burn damage, saving you the hassle.
  • If you've not played Ryder White's Campaign, it'll be unclear why he has betrayed the Heroes since his intentions are apparently noble.
  • When fighting White on the roof, no other zombies will spawn, allowing you to focus on him.
  • There's several ammo boxes on the helipad to one end, where a load of wooden crates are. Use them if you need the ammo.
  • During the final cutscene, if you look at Kevin's face when he tells the Heroes that the world will never be the same, you can see him smile to himself. This is a hint to his true nature and self, one you'll only know if you play Ryder White's campaign.

Trivia[]

  • After killing all the BIDF soldiers and getting close to the helipad, you will hear White shout on the radio to "Execute Protocol 66". This is likely a reference to Order 66 from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
