Nighthawk is a hard difficulty side quest given to the Hero by Monica Goldberg in Dead Island.

Synopsis[]

The Hero is asked to locate Oceanic Flight 1012, which crashed in the jungle, and find any survivors there might be.

Walkthrough[]

  • Talk to Monica at the Lighthouse to start the quest.
  • She'll explain that she was in contact with the pilots of the aircraft that went down in the jungle. She wants to see if any of them had survived and also see if the aircraft is salvageable to fly off the island.
  • You can receive this quest while in Act I, but you can't get to the Jungle until much later in the game, in Act III. As such, ignore the quest for now and continue playing normally through the game.
  • When you finally reach the jungle with Jin, you can complete the quest. You can even complete it while escorting her to the River Village.
  • After you abandon the Jeep at Gaia Falls, you set off on foot to complete the journey.
  • While traveling on foot with Jin, you will see a wrecked pick-up partly up a hill. There's a wicker basket in the back and a plastic pallet on the floor. Head up to it and kill the Jungle Mugger just past it.
  • Continue up to the lip of the hill and get your first glance at the crashed airliner. No-one has survived and the aircraft is certainly not airworthy.
  • Don't engage the muggers down there, instead turn back and continue to the River Village.
  • Once you're there, fast travel back to the Lighthouse and talk to Monica to finish the quest.
  • If you don't do it while escorting Jin, it's very easy to just turn around and head back to it from the River Village.

Location[]

The plane is located in the Jungle, accessible only in Act III. Tracking the quest will lead the player west of the main fishing village of the jungle. Don't confuse the jungle area surrounding the Laboratory with the jungle area near the fishing village where the crashed plane is. Once at the crash site, the quest is completed (you don't need to approach the plane, simply viewing it from a rock outcrop is enough). In and around the plane are jungle muggers, generally wielding semi-automatic pistols and single shot rifles.

Notes[]

  • While you receive the quest near the beginning of the game, you can not enter the Jungle until much later, thus the quest is not completable and will not be displayed in the quest log until the time as it is able to be completed.
  • It's better to wait to finish this quest until you find the Overpass Camp and accept the side quest Fallen Angel from Chris. This way, you can finish both quests without having to revisit this location.
  • It is unknown why this quest is accessible in Act I from the Lighthouse, given that it is only completable past the start of Act III and the probability of survivors existing at the crash site after this amount of time seems unlikely. On the other hand, it's given right after the crash and no one knows how long, if ever, it will take the Hero to locate the wreck. Also, since time doesn't seem to apply in the game (there are no day/night cycles), how long it took to reach the Jungle is debatable. The quest does help tie together the various parts of the game (just like the side quests A Voice from Above the Sky and Spy Game).

Trivia[]

  • The quest is a reference to the plot of the TV series Lost, where an Oceanic Flight aircraft crashes onto a tropical island, leaving no survivors.
