“In the military they taught us how to kill, but no one ever told us what to do when your best friend is the enemy.”
— Nick
Nick is a survivor featured in Dead Island. He is found in front of Nick's Hub in the Waterfront district of Moresby. He is a former soldier and is the leader of the survivors barricaded inside the Square. The Hero finds Nick and his group of survivors outside of an abandoned house, exposed and distraught. Nick explains that his best friend and former brother-in-arms, Bob, became infected and locked the group out of the house in an attempt to protect them. Unfortunately, the group is now in more danger and Nick asks the Hero to go inside and put Bob out of his misery, starting the side quest A New Broom Sweeps Clean.
Once Bob is dead and the house is clear, Nick and his group move in. He then gives the Hero the side quest Spy Game, in which the Hero must record the radio transmissions of the military in order to see whether or not they're behind the infection. After doing this, Nick has no further quests and remains at the safe house for the rest of the game.
Appearance[]
Nick is a middle aged man with brown hair and a full beard. He wears a puffy green coat, a blue undershirt, beige shorts held by a brown belt, and brown sandals. He also wears a green baseball cap and a silver necklace. In the Definitive Edition, his shorts are green patterned and his necklace is gold.
Trivia[]
- At the end of Patrick's side quest Paperwork, he tells the heroes to take the information to Nick as 'He'll know what to do'. However no further interaction with Nick happens, no further dialogue or new quest pop-up, indicating that it was likely meant to be a part of a chain of quests that were either not finished or cut for an unknown reason.
- It's also therefore possible that Nick's side quest Spy Game was also meant to lead into a quest chain, as he says 'I need to put some thought into this' after receiving the transmission, something a lot of Dead Island characters similarly say before giving a subsequent quest.
