As some of you may know, my main contributions were/are more technical than anything. I created many of the original templates on the wiki and, after becoming an admin, I created a lot of the JS.
Moving forward with the wiki's development, I've written a few new scripts and have even more planned to make us really stand out.
In my last blog post, we came to a consensus that tabs would be an effective way to differentiate between various DI games. However, after looking into the TabView extension I found several major issues with its implementation (To read my full explanation, go to Help:Tab_view).
Long story short, it breaks the wiki when viewed on a mobile device, and it is difficult for users unfamiliar with how wikis work to edit the linked content.
So I wrote a script to address these issues. The result can be seen here, in contrast to the tabs on the TabView Help Page. However, there is one bug that I've noticed with multiple rows of tabs thanks to User:DarienLeonhart Thread:19965. …

This wiki has grown immensely over the last few years and with Dead Island 2 around the corner, I don't see it slowing down anytime soon. So in preparation for the new game, I believe we should request a custom namespaces for Dead Island 2. The main wiki is already starting to blur the lines between the DI1 and DI: Riptide, and I don't want this wiki to end up like the elder scrolls wiki.
If you don't know what i'm talking about, go to that wiki and just look around at utter chaos and disorganization that is rampant throughout the entire wiki. Trying to look at information relating to any one game and you will be give pages with no clear indication as to what game it is talking about. Some pages might have "(Skyrim)" or something similar in the title. But not all skyrim pages have this. Some pages mix large amounts of content from multiple games into one for no reason! The fundamental problem stems from the fact that every game exists in the same namespace. Creating a clear and definit…Read more >
In an effort to streamline the wiki, we have been hard at work cleaning, documenting, and creating new templates to aid in the continuing expansion of the wiki.
First priority was cleaning up the functional templates to make them easier to use, less cluttered, and less obtrusive to the actual content on the page. Additionally, we used a color coding scale, to establish the importance of the functional template being used.
As a reminder, please note the
Good luck, and happy editing!

Edit: Added disambiguation template
Want to properly style some text to show an items rarity? We've set up some simple classes you can use instead of relying on basic colors such as orange or purple. These colors are taken directly from the game, but have been added as classes so they are easier to use without having to know the hex values.
To style the content, simply wrap the information in a span, and add the appropriate class. Please note this will not affect linked items, as they will always pull the link style.
For ease of use, the styles reflect their rarity counterparts
common = white
uncommon = green
rare = blue
unique or superior = purple
legendary, exceptional or ultimate = orange

First off, I would like to thank you for the support I received for my request for adminship on this wiki. I look forward to helping to make this wiki a better resource for all fans of the series.
One of the first things I wanted to do, as I had discussed with some others prior, was to enable message walls. This makes speaking to and with others a lot easier. Instead of having to force a threaded list via the definition lists (the :, ::, :::), discussions will be automatically threaded like a forum (or blog) post. If you want to reference your former talk page, don't worry, the content has been archived for each user. Navigate to your message wall, and click on See archived talk page to view the content.
I hope this will help everyone communicate a lot easier from now on.Read more >

Dead Island has been banned from sale in Germany.
"This isn't unexpected," developer Techland told Eurogamer. "Germany has its unique regulations regarding video games and violence and the industry can only comply. "Both Deep Silver and Techland were aware of such a possibility from the very beginning."
Germany's Federal Department of Media Harmful to Young Persons (the BPJM) classified Dead Island as "List B".
"List B" contains the names of "youth-endangering media". Media on "List B" cannot be sold anywhere in Germany, and anyone caught doing so is punishable by law. GamesIndustry.biz Germany tells us "List B" is usually reserved for media depicting extreme torture or Nazi content.
Being on "List B" means that importing retailers Play.com, Amazon.de and Gameware.at run the risk of cargo being seized at German customs. The BPJM didn't explain why Dead Island was banned, which is common practice. Game publisher Koch Media will have been given a detailed report. Publisher Koch Media (owne…

The Polish Dead Island developer, Techland, has recently filed a trademark for “Dead World” in the United States. This is huge news for fans of the game, despite of the gaming community’s growing frustration with the bug-riddled game. However, the game did launch with 2 million sales in the first week so it is not surprising that the developers want to keep this series alive. But is it dead already?
Yes, true fans are surely going to pick up a copy, but what about the players that couldn’t get past all the bugs? If visited your local game store two weeks after the launch, then like me you saw shelves riddled with used copies of Dead Island. I think Duke Nukem Forever fared better than Dead Island in the first two weeks. Are these gamers willing to give Techland a second chance?
I should point out that Techland acquiring a trademark doesn’t mean that they are making a game. Although unlikely, they could be planning a comic book series, TV show, or even an iPhone game for all we know. But…Read more >
Lionsgate announced Tuesday morning that it has acquired the film rights to the zombie title and will begin developing it as a feature. There are no writers yet on what is essentially a film in very early development, but producer Sean Daniel ("The Mummy"), who was reportedly involved with a "Dead Island" movie project early on, will produce it, Lionsgate said.
So whats your opinion on this? Do you think is going to be the next big zombie movie or a gametomovie flop?Read more >

Hey Everybody! As the release of the game grow closer we have certain goals in mind for the wiki that we wish to accomplish. One of these is getting put the Wikia Spotlight. If you don't know what this is it is the wiki's at the bottom of the page and navigation bar at the top. There are certain requirements for approval for this. Here are the requirements:
"When you request a spotlight, your wiki should follow these best practices:
- The requestor should be either an active admin, or link to a discussion with an active admin of the wiki and agreeing to the spotlight.
- The wiki should have at least 200 content pages, not counting stubs. Stub articles should make up no more than 1/5th of all pages on the wiki.
The main page of the wiki should have at least one picture, and clear links to the most important content. It should not be sysop-protected for editing unless there is a strong history of vandalism.
- The wiki should have a clear category structure to help readers navigate around the site.…

A novelization of the upcoming Dead Island video game has been announced. It will be written by Mark Morris, known for mainly for his Doctor Who books, likeGhosts of India and his Torchwood novel Bay of the Dead. The latter also features zombies, so he is certainly familiar with the genre.
The book is to be published in the United Kingdom by Bantam and released on September 8. There's no information on an United States release yet.
Like the game, the book will follow the pursuits of four vacationers trying to stay alive on the tropical-paradise-turned-undead-infested-island.

Gamers and Geeks unit - Dead Island solo campaign hands-on
Last Wednesday I was given the chance to put my hands-on Dead Island solo campaign which trailer managed to awake my interest while a general zombie overdose had reached (even) me after the awfully boring The Walking Dead TV series (read preview here, and yes I found the series so disappointing I don't see the point in writing more about it...). Following this amazing trailer you can see in our preview, the first in-game teaser was released the day before my hands-on and once again, it worked!
Today the game is still in its production phase and for what I understood the version we played on was a pre-beta one. Though the rendering for the landscapes and characters was nice already and I encountered no bug playing while I'm quite a specialist on this field!
For the first test I started as a woman character in a mountain refuge which allows me to discover in full security the game routines for Dead Island. Quite surprisingly I disc…

A new Dead Island trailer has been created for dead island showing some of the games environment, with a few zombies, in the first in-game footage we’ve seen to date!Read more >
Following our initial look at Dead Island back at GDC, I recently got our first chance to play the game for real. And "real" is the appropriate word here. Despite the zombies, wacky weapon combinations and a creepy Lost vibe, Dead Island does a lot to emphasize the reality of your admittedly unbelievable situation.
It starts right away in the demo, with an opening first-person cinematic that has my character living it up at one of the island's clubs, as signs of the big Z start to appear at the corners of my blurred, drunken vision. Is that woman just resting in the booth over there or is that blood near her head? Wait -- did that man just bite his date? Eventually, I'm too drunk to tell or even care, passing out in a nearby corner. This is when the game proper starts.
I'm playing as Xian Mei, one of the four playable characters that serve as classes in the game. She's a feisty Asian woman ("I don't punch like a girl!"), who I'm told is quick and good with knives; sort of the "rogue" o…

Everyone loves zombie games. It's a bona fide fact. And if you're shaking your head in disagreement, resolute in your hatred of zombie games, then you're wrong. Deep down, you love zombie games, which is why you can't wait for Dead Island, Techland's foray into melee-based RPG survival horror, casting you in the role of a character at a tropical holiday resort besieged by swathes of the undead.
In the game, you'll choose from one of four characters and use whatever comes to hand to bludgeon your way through thousands of zombies of varying classes, sizes and types. Featuring customisable weapons and four-player drop-in/drop-out co-op, Dead Island appears to be rather ambitious, but will it be able to stand out in a market packed to the rafters with games featuring the slavering hordes of the walking dead?

ROH: It must have been a surprise to see the trailer become a sudden internet phenomena! How has the team been reacting to the popularity?
Sebastian: We knew from the beginning that we had something special with this trailer. But seeing how this trailer exploded all over the internet and the media coverage afterwards was really exciting for us! We are all extremely happy to get such positive feedback on our work.
ROH: Many people were quite moved by the trailer, but are a bit worried if this emotional approach will be held in the actual game. It has been said the story is to be full of mystery and drama, do you suspect there are scenes in the game that may emotionally impact players like the trailer has?
Sebastian: Yes. It’s violent, fast, revolting and there are gut punching emotional scenes. But of course in the context of the game they work differently compared to the trailer. A trailer has to work in 2 minutes. The game has to hook you for…

Bears, a vodka factory, an actual zombie. But not the home of the most exciting undead happening since Danny Boyle made them run in 28 Days Later. Techland, best known for cowboy series Call of Juarez, have taken the best bits of zombie killing and mashed them all together into one open world adventure. Oh, and you’ll want to pack the factor 50, because it all takes place on the sunny island of Banoi in Papua New Guinea.
You’ve seen the trailer, the little girl, the biting, the falling out of a really high window in backwards slow motion. This is all about being a bemused holidaymaker suddenly caught in the middle of the zombie apocalypse and scrambling to survive. One minute it’s Bermuda shorts and cocktails with umbrellas in, the next it’s bashing in the head of a walking corpse with a plank. You get to play as one of four characters, each with their own special skill set and weaknesses, such as speed or strength or ability with sharp things. I mainly got to see Sam B in action, an e…
