Nail Gun Ammo is a type of Special Ammo for the Nail Gun. Unlike ammo for conventional firearms (pistols, rifles, etc), you can't look at your inventory or weapon wheel to find out quickly how much you have. Like ammo for the Flare Gun or Harpoon, nail gun ammo is located in a separate part of your inventory, the same as throwables, meaning you need to manually find it yourself to find how much you have. Also like regular ammo, however, there is a maximum to how much you can carry. Like Harpoon Ammo, this ammo can be collected again after firing, providing you can find where it's gone. It's a lot harder to find than harpoon ammo, though, as nail gun ammo is a lot smaller and therefore far harder to find after firing, especially in a place like the Flooded jungle or the darkness of the Japanese Tunnels. It appears as a single black nail which contributes to how hard it is to find once fired. It will stick into whatever wall, floor, ceiling or enemy it hits, so keeping track of where they hit is quite important for finding them again.

- Various Merchants will sell Nail Gun Ammo:
- Makayla in Halai Village can sell ammo, regardless of if the Survivor Pack DLC is installed.
- Pierre will sell Nail Gun Ammo after completing his side quest Fire Sale.
- Alex in Henderson will sell ammo after being saved in his Civilian Rescue quest Rescue Alex.
- Nora at the Henderson Military Base will sell Nail Gun Ammo after the main quest Militarized Zone.
- Rodrigo in Henderson can also sell it.
- Trevor Rogers can sell it after completing at least 1 tier of his Team Quest Best Merchandise for Trevor Rogers.
- Zoey will sell Nail Gun Ammo after completing the final tier of her Team Quest Best Merchandise for Zoey.
Notes[]
- Nail Gun Ammo cannot spawn randomly in any containers or on any defeated enemies, nor can it be found in Metal chests. The only way to obtain new Nail Gun Ammo is to purchase it directly from merchants or found at the ferry station.
- Nail Gun Ammo can only be purchased one nail at a time, and sells for $375 per each nail (before any applicable discounts).
- Nail Gun Ammo is incredibly rare, second only to Harpoon Ammo in terms of rarity.
