Mowen's Boat is one of the Fast Travel locations and Safehouses featured in Dead Island.
This river boat is owned by Mowen, with a layout consisting of a steering wheel, which will Fast Travel you to various places depending on your location and progress in the storyline, and a workbench for implementing blueprints and repairing.
Overview[]
The boat is a wide, shallow, rectangular metal boat, designed for travelling down the rivers of the Mingende Jungle. There's a covered awning at the stern of the vessel which covers the steering wheel and workbench of the boat, providing passengers some protection from the elements. There's two benches near the bow of the boat for other passengers to sit during nicer weather. The bow has a slight flat, raised area which is later used for poles to protect the boat from sea mines during the main story. The boat is powered by a diesel motor hidden under the deck while some tyres protect it in case it bumps a dock while mooring.[1]
Plot[]
The boat is first mentioned at the beginning of the main quest Soldier of Fortune, when Matutero tells the heroes that he will only take them to Mowen after obtaining their sole boat, which was stolen by the warlord Afran[2]. The heroes then assault Afran's base and retrieve the boat, which the heroes pilot to the River Village[2]. After the boat arrives, Matutero takes the heroes to get to Mowen, and persuades him to go with them[3]. Mowen then pilots the boat to the Laboratory docks and stays there while the heroes help the scientists at the Lab[4]. During main quest Pure Blood, Mowen transports the heroes to the Tomb of Natives along with the native witchdoctor Koritoia Ope. Mowen remains with the boat whilst the heroes find Yerema and return. After saving Mowen from some Zombies he got ambushed by whilst exploring the area, he takes them back to the Lab.[5]
During the main quest Boat Supplies, Mowen pilots it to Moresby where he instructs the heroes to collect a package for Titus Kabui as well as extra gas for the boat from the Moresby Gas Station[6]. This is in preparation to take them to the off shore Prison to find Ryder White[7]. The final thing he needs is some long poles from the Old Marina Workshop at the Resort during the main quest Back in Black so they can fend off the sea mines in the area around the prison[7]. After all supplies have been acquired, Mowen then pilots it back to the Lab for the main quest No Time to Talk[8]. Upon leaving the Lab with the cure, Mowen pilots the boat to the prison, with the heroes pushing away any mines that get close, or shooting them to blow them up[9]. The boat remains shored up at the prison dock, however when the canteen is overrun and the heroes next find Yerema and Jin, Yerema tells them that Mowen traded his boat to Alvaro, meaning the boat may possibly be back on Banoi or with Alvaro, trying to sneak through the blockade.[10]
