Memories is a medium difficulty side quest given to the Heroes by Damien in Dead Island: Riptide.
Synopsis[]
Help Damien finish his project.
Walkthrough[]
- Damien is located in a small area next to the Old Town Cinema, on top of some scaffolding and surrounded by zombies. To reach him, stand in the courtyard in front of the cinema with the cinema behind you. Go straight forwards, all the way through the next open area and through the doorway in the wall. Damien is on the scaffolding at the back.
- After killing all the zombies, talk to Damien to start the quest.
- Damien explains that he's working on a project but needs some things from you. First he needs a battery, which the game labels as a capacitor, and asks you to find them for him.
- Luckily, it is nearby, located in the square just next door. A green search circle will appear on your map showing whereabouts it is located. Head to the circle and look around for an overturned postcard rack which has landed on a table. The capacitor is located on the table, trapped under the racking.
- Take the capacitor and return to Damien. He appears to have some memory loss, as he is confused at first and can't remember why you're bringing him a battery. However, his memory soon returns and he remembers his project. Now, however, he needs two spark gaps, which are a little further away. Once again, these are marked with a green search circle on your map.
- The first one is located not far from the Old Town Cinema, so return to it but at the courtyard take a right (coming from Damien) to go through the archway and up a set of stairs. There's an Infected or two up here, as well as some Walkers, but they're easy enough to deal with.
- Continue forwards and go up the next set of stairs on your left. From here you can jump onto the roof from the walkway in front of you, then onto a set of scaffolding. There's a workbench on this which has the first spark gap on it, a red tube with metal either end.
- The second spark gap is a bit of a trek away, however. This proves a problem, since it's in the middle of no-where. Return to the stairs and take a left, continuing away from the Old Town Cinema, towards the Church.
- There's a Screamer in this square, as well as some Infected. If you're not carful or well prepared, they'll tear through you, so prioritise the Screamer, trying to either stun it or kill it quickly, before it screams at you and leaves you defenceless to it and the Infected with it.
- Once they're dead, go through the square towards the Makeshift Hospital. Unlock it if you haven't already, as it's a good fast travel point, but remember that if you enter it it will respawn the Infected and Screamer in the square in front of you.
- Go past the Makeshift Hospital, towards the scaffolding at the back against the wall. Climb up the ladders to reach the roof and go over, dropping down the other side where the barricaded entrance to the Quarantine Zone is located.
- Continue forwards, down the street all the way to the bottom, then look for an alleyway. There'll be two overturned bins/dumpsters near to a wall with a ladder on it. The spark gap is in with the rubbish that's spilled on the floor.
- Head back to Damien once you have it. If you didn't already unlock the Makeshift Hospital, I suggest going back to the square, entering the hospital and fast travelling to the Old Town Cinema to cut out the time you'll spend getting back to the Old Town Cinema, as some of the zombies have likely respawned. However, if the square is clear and doesn't have the Screamer back with the Infected, then continue on foot.
- Either way, go back to Damien and hand him the spark gaps. Once again, he's completely forgotten why you're handing him spark gaps, but after thinking for a few seconds, he'll remember. His final items he requests is an electric coil. The only problem is the only place to find one is in the military base.
- Make your way to the military base by going through the side passage from the square where Damien is, then around to the waterfront. You can't miss the military base, as it's on its own island accessed via a bridge. You need to be a certain ways through the story before you can reach it, however, so you might need to wait until you're there before you can complete this. If you've already accessed the base, however, you can return to the Old Town Cinema and use the fast travel to go right to the base.
- Once in the military base, make your way to the command centre. Use the portal to enter the main building.
- Once inside, head to the basement where all the generators, parts, etc, are located. There's a lot of armoured zombies here, so they'll take more hits to go down, plus it can be pretty dark, so be prepared. The electric coil is located right in the back corner, on a metal shelf.
- Surprise! A Thug appears behind you and you need to be ready for him. He spawns when you grab the electrical coil and there's no way to stop this. DO NOT GET CAUGHT OUT BY THIS! REMEMBER THIS THUG WILL SPAWN WHEN YOU GRAB THE COIL AND BE READY FOR HIM!
- Kill the Thug, which is easier said than done as it's an enclosed space and he's usually armoured, so he'll take a bit of punishment. Once he's dead, however, you can leave the military base building.
- Return to Damien. Since all the zombies will have respawned from you entering the military base, I suggest using the fast travel at the base to return to the Old Town Cinema, then proceeded to Damien from there. This will likely mean fighting the Ram and Screamer again, but this'll be your last trip to Damien.
- Once you reach him, hand over the electrical coil. As before, Damien will be confused, but putting them all together makes him remember that he was making a weapon! However, he gives you the parts and blueprint to make it so you can kill zombies with his creation.
Notes[]
- There's often a Screamer in the square in front of where Damien is located, so be careful when travelling to/from him.
- There's also usually a Ram in the courtyard in front of the Old Town Cinema, who can respawn so be ready in case he comes back when you're not expecting it.
- Some of the tables and chairs in the area where Damien is have ammo on them, which is good for resupplying your firearms while completing his quest.
- The Deathstalker Mod is found on the balcony where Damien is located.
- Similarly, you can find Postcard 11 on a table in front of where Damien is.
- It's a good idea to take this quest and complete as much of it as you can before reaching the main quest Militarized Zone, as the final part of this quests needs you to enter the military base, so you can complete this quest at the same time as that main quest.
- You can find the civilian rescue quest Rescue Kyle as you find the first spark gap.
- Close by to here you can find John Morgan's Diary #8 on some tables just next to Rescue Kyle and the nearby dead zone Metzger Sloat's Hideout.
- Now is a good time to unlock the Makeshift Hospital if you haven't already, as you go right past it while collecting the second spark gap.
- You can always take a blue rarity shotgun from the military base, which respawns next to the fast travel map on the table.
