The Medieval Mod is a weapon mod featured in Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. It was added to Dead Island in Patch 1.3. The mod can only be applied to a Kanabo. The mod adds a heavy Bleed Effect and bleed damage to the weapon.
Overview[]
The mod is acquired relatively mid-way through both games, putting it in a good place compared to the bonuses it gives to the weapon, the Kanabo. The mod is relatively expensive, at $1,000, and with 16 mod items required, it's quite expensive to craft as well, though they're all common and quite easy to find items which does help to alleviate that cost somewhat. However, the effect it gives for that price is well worth it, with a heavy bleed effect and critical not seen until at least Act III. The given effect makes it incredibly effective at dealing with high health special infected such as Thugs or Wrestlers, as when the bleed effect is applied, it can rapidly drain their health. Visually, the mod adds lots of nails sticking out of the end of the weapon as well as wrapped barbed wire around it, plus a battery pack near the grip of the weapon.
The downfall of the weapon comes in its only applicable base weapon, a trait shared by all of these unique weapon mods that are only for a single weapon. The Kanabo can be difficult to acquire, especially in a higher rarity, with only one or two Merchants in the entire game selling a Kanabo. This combined with the scarcity of finding a Kanabo out of a Metal chest or on a Zombie makes the Medieval Mod very difficult to apply and use, despite its very good stats once applied. Its cost is also relatively high, with a decent chunk of Cash required as well as the usage of two Phones, one of the more difficult mods items to acquire.

By following my guidelines you will make your Kanabo able to not only smash bones and crack skulls but also gut the veins out, literally. I'm not kidding, you'll hit a guy with this and he will be spilling blood as if shot with a shotgun.
In Dead Island, the mod is located in Stan Dart's House in Moresby during Grasp All, Lose All. It is on a small table near the couch. In Dead Island: Riptide, the mod is located in the Japanese Tunnels behind some boxes just after initially entering the area.

Notes[]
- If you leave Stan's house before collecting the mod, you will not be able to re-enter it to collect it. To avoid this, either don't complete the quest or collect the mod before leaving. This was fixed in the Definitive Edition, which has the house always accessible, even after completion of the side quest,
- Unusually for a weapon mod, it does not add a prefix to the front of the weapon name like other mods.
