Medicine for Emily is the seventh main quest in the Ryder White's Campaign DLC in Dead Island.

Synopsis[]

Ryder White has to pick up a syringe of Tetracycline to slow down Emily's infection.

Walkthrough[]

  • Immediately after taking the elevator to the hospital from the docks, you need to come out swinging as a Walker is waiting to charge in and grab you, so swing constantly until you get out of the elevator. Head left and wait for the Walkers to come to you.
  • There's around 5 of them around the elevator area that will detect you and come at you, so kill them all then proceed down the corridor, to the right of the elevator.
  • You'll arrive at a fork and you need to go right. From in front of you some Infected will run towards you, so kill them and then kill the Thug and Walkers on the right. If you go to where the Infected came from there's just some ammo.
  • The main corridor is blocked off by a bar door so you need to go through the ward on your right, where some Walkers and Infected are found.
  • Coming out the other end, there's some Walkers in the corridor (which is still blocked) but luckily there's a propane tank visible from the doorway. Shoot it to clear out the Walkers, then enter the corridor.
  • The single door in front of you is the way to go. Luckily it's not locked so you can just push it open and mow down the Walkers milling around in the room. A Thug is in the next room over, an operating room of some kind, so clear it out so that you can search unmolested.
  • The medicine is a syringe gun on a desk across the room. Upon picking it up, Ryder radios Charon that he has the medicine. Charon will tell him to administer it to his wife but remember that it's not a cure, only a way of slowing it down. However he reassures him that an actual cure is on its way and that they must prepare a path for those who are bring it. Once he's done that, he's to find Charon at the control room.
  • Exit the operating theatre using the double doors and cross over the corridor to a very dark ward. In here are some Walkers and a single Infected. Mow them down with extreme prejudice and proceed to the end. At the far end is a Thug but he's not too difficult. Once it's dead, open the doors and find Emily still strapped to the bed.
  • Ryder will inject Emily with the medicine and tell her to hang in there. After doing so, Charon warns Ryder that there's some very 'pissed off prisoners' heading his way. Exit the room and back down the corridor.
  • The prisoners are in the corridor you fought through to get the medicine in the first place. Now the main corridor is open, with all the doors locked so you can get down without going through the wards. Use cover and shoot back at the rebels. They die to one shot with a headshot, like all human enemies, so go for that and work your way down.
  • At the end one of the corridor doors is still closed, so you have to go through the room where you got the medicine from to continue. The doors in the corridor will once again open and rebels will shoot at you again.
  • Once all the prisoners are dead, Ryder will comment that Emily should be safe for now. Proceed to the junction at the end of the corridor and go left. Charon will radio and say that he thinks that's all of them and Ryder should proceed to the control room in block C.
  • Opening the double doors at the end will reveal a staircase down. Go all the way to the bottom, killing the few Walkers playing dead and taking the grenade and incendiary grenade you find, before going through the double doors on the right at the bottom.
  • This is a very good place to use that grenade or incendiary grenade as there's around 8 Walkers just the other side of the door! Throw it and close the door on them! It'll take them all out. Alternatively, spray them down with an auto rifle to do the same job.
  • Do the same to the next room, as there's a suicider, Infected and more Walkers through here and a well placed throwable will deal with all of them. Once it's clear, head down this new corridor.
  • A Thug is at the end waiting for you, but now he's alone and easy meat to your rage! You're at the top of a staircase but going down yields nothing as there's no loot at the bottom. Instead head through the double doors on the left.
  • Follow the minimap marker to find yourself in a familiar place, the control room of the prison. Once through the door, head towards the bank of screens and a cutscene will play.
  • It shows Charon talking to Dr. West from the laboratory. He's holding with him a prototype cure, but it only works on people who have been infected for a short time. Charon nicknames the virus the 'Pharaoh's Curse' as it came from a mummy. West corrects him by saying it's not from a mummy but from Yerema. She's a 'walking time bomb' as he puts it. West wants to continue working on a cure using Yerema, but Charon tells him that his work is done and to send the cure with Yerema to him at the prison. West denies his request, determined to develop a true cure that he knows he can do with just a little more time and goes to end the transmission while taking more blood from Yerema. She panics and doesn't believe West when he says he just needs a little more blood to save her, her people and the entire island. It results in Yerema locking herself in a cell, preventing West reaching her. Angrily West goes over to his computer with the intent of opening the door, but Charon acts first and successfully releases all the zombies locked up in the lab before West can release Yerema. West is attacked and eaten by an Infected as Yerema stays safely locked up in the cage. Charon then quickly puts on an Australian accent and talks to someone else, warning them of a commotion in the lab.
  • White walks in at this last bit and demands to know who Charon was taking to. Charon dismisses him by telling him not to go all paranoid on him, but Ryder has started to grow suspicious. This ends the cutscene and the quest as you are placed in the control room facing Charon, ready to take on his next request.

Notes[]

  • You can find one of Emily's audio recordings on a desk in the same room as the medicine. While you can't pick it up, you can listen to it from the desk.
  • Another tape is found in the control room on one of the desks at the back.
  • If you really wanted to, if you go left instead of right at the junction to the intensive care unit where Emily is found after collecting the medicine, you can take the stairs down to the basement and go through it all over again! You'll be stopped at the docks and there's nothing down here other than all the zombies and loot from the first time around, but you can still do it! Charon will also be gone from the transformer room.
