For the throwable weapon of the same name in Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide, see Meat Bait.

Rotten, stinking flesh that is catnip to zombies. Use it to lure them over, or distract them while you escape!
— Description

Meat Bait is a Curveball featured in Dead Island 2. It functions identically to the Meat Bait seen in Dead Island and Riptide. It can be bought from Carlos at 66 Alpine Drive in Bel-Air for 0 Cash.

Overview[]

The Meat Bait is a distraction curveball and functions exactly the same as the throwable found in previous games. It's a glass bottle full of meat and blood which breaks when thrown and hit the floor. It will attract any nearby basic zombie, which includes Walker, Runner, and Shambler and their variants, and distract them for several seconds. The zombies are distracted for roughly 10 seconds before they lose interest, however it will bunch them up and allow you to follow up with a different curveball, either an explosive one such a the Military Grenade or Pipe Bomb, or a damage over time one such as the Electric Star. It also allows you to herd these zombies into one specific spot, for if you need to focus on a harder apex zombie such as a Crusher

However, it only distracts Runners briefly compared to Walkers and Shamblers, and has no effect on all Apex variants, which limits its use. It also causes no damage to the zombies, even if you hit them in the face with it. The Bait Bomb is a direct upgrade to it, acquired later in the game, however it is a Meat Bait that has an explosive fitted to it, negating the requirement for a follow up curveball.
