Matutero is a survivor featured in Dead Island. He is located in the River Village.
He is encountered during the quest Welcome to the Jungle, in which the Hero, along with Jin, finds him in the ruins of his village. The zombie infection took his village completely by surprise and wiped out most of its population. The Hero and Jin find him inside a hut, along with Mohakin, where he says that he will take Jin and the Hero to see Mowen if they do him a favor.
He gives the Hero the quest Chasing Shadows, in which the Hero must retrieve a crate of supplies. Doing this earns Matutero's trust.
He then gives the Hero the quest Soldier of Fortune, in which the Hero must find and kill Afran and retrieve the boat that he stole.
Appearance[]
Matutero is a middle-aged man with short brown hair and a full beard. He wears dark green pants held by a brown belt and black and white shoes with no shirt. He also has a white head wrap, several gold chains, a black waist bag, and a white cloth wrapped around his right hand, most likely his shirt.

Trivia[]
- Interestingly, after retrieving Mowen's boat and travelling to the laboratory, if the player fast-travels back to the village again, Matutero will be nowhere to be found, despite him being the leader of the village.
- Mike gives the Hero a warning about Matutero, saying he's one of two people who are always terrorizing the jungle, along with Afran. However, during the time in the Jungle, Matutero does nothing that makes it seem like he's a murderous warlord like Afran. In fact, he even went as far as to let David stay at the River Village while the outbreak continues. It's possible Mike made an assumption about him, since he himself never goes into the Jungle.
- When first arriving at the river village, Jin seems to know Mohakin and Matutero. This is never explained.
