Man of Faith is a hard difficulty main quest given to the Hero by Dr. West in Dead Island.

Synopsis[]

The Hero must find the natives camping near the Laboratory to obtain blood samples.

Walkthrough[]

  • Talk to Dr. West to start the quest.
  • He explains that he needs a blood sample from someone with a natural immunity to the virus. He tried to get it from the nearby natives, but he instead offended them. He'd like you to go and get a sample from them.
  • Head outside the lab and take the jeep from in front of the reception area. It'll make the trip far less hazardous and a lot quicker and easier. If, for some reason, you don't want to take the jeep, make sure you take a lot of medkits and a good weapon, as there'll be a lot of zombies on the way including many Infected, a Thug, a Butcher and even a Ram if you're unlucky enough.
  • Using the jeep, drive up the winding road up the mountain to the scientist's bungalows. Drive through them and through the vehicle gate, running over all you can see.
  • You can actually drive all the way up to the entrance of the native's cave, so stick with the car until then
  • Once you reach the cave, talk to the native warrior behind it. He'll tell you that you'll have to go around to gain entrance to the cave.
  • Travel to the left, kill the few zombies you'll see there, before reaching the fighting pit. Here Koritoia Ope will explain the fighting pit and that you'll have to fight for the right to get a blood sample from them.
  • Jump into the pit and get ready to fight! Once in, you can't get out until you either win or die. There's a few makeshift weapons scattered around, as well as some fruit for healing.
  • The fight will proceed in three parts. The first part gets you to fight some normal Infected who will come from a entrance on the left. The second part comes in the form to two different Infected groups. Flaming Infected will come from the middle while toxic Infected will come from the right. They come at the same time, giving you a threat on two sides. Kill off one and pause before taking on the other. This will make the spawns come one at a time rather than both at the same time.
  • The final challenge is to take out the warrior Infected. It's a giant Infected which acts the same as a normal Infected except has the side and health of a Thug. Use a high damage weapon to kill it quickly, and if possible stun it with an electric weapon to give yourself some breathing space to either heal or deal with the other infected that spawn with it.
  • Once it's dead, kill off all the other Infected in the arena before taking the sample off the dead warrior. Ope will speak to you from the arena side, but there is a ladder near him which you can use to climb out of the pit.
  • Head out the now open door and use the fast travel map at the end of the path to get back to the lab quickly.
  • Run back to Dr. West and talk to him to finish the quest.

Notes[]

  • You'll probably find Sebastian at the lab bungalows. It's advisable to take his questline while you're there. You can easily use the jeep to quickly travel between him and the lab.
  • Infected spawned during the trial have notably less stamina than those encountered during the rest of the game and they will frequently be knocked down by attacks. If possible, it's advisable to first receive each one with a kick in order to set them up for following attacks; with luck, they'll be knocked down and set for a stomp, killing them instantly.
  • A fire weapon will be very useful for the arena, as you'll be assaulted by toxic Infected during the later phases of the encounter and a fire weapon will be able to kill them in a single attack, regardless of your current level.
  • You can take the continuous quest Dreamtime from the native warrior in the cave after you complete the trial.

Bugs[]

  • The gate at the scientists' bungalows area uphill may not open upon approach, making it impossible for the player to head to the quest's next destination. Exiting and continuing the game solves this issue.

Trivia[]

  • The term "Man of Faith" is often used to describe a person that is more religious than others; a priest or reverend.
