Make Yourself at Home is a very easy difficulty side quest given to the Hero by Harlan Johnson in Dead Island.
Synopsis[]
Help Harlan get into his bungalow.
Walkthrough[]
- While driving, you'll see a bunch of Walkers scrabbling at a chain fence, with a man calling for help from behind it.
- Kill the Walkers that you find. It's easiest to just keep running them over with the car until they die, however you can always jump out and kill them with your weapon if that's easier.
- Once they're dead, open the chain fence and talk to the man standing behind it.
- He's called Harlan and he was a pilot making his way to the airport when he got trapped behind the fence. He's trying to get into the bungalow, but it's locked up and he's too exposed out in the open. He wants you to get into the bungalow and unlock it for him.
- There's two ways of getting into the bungalow.
- The intended way is to head out of the gate and around to the right hand side. There's a pile of crates and boxes up against a cliff wall. Climb these boxes to reach a short overhang which is pointing to the back garden. Get a running start and jump into the back garden from the overhang.
- The second way is to use the pile of boxes on the side of the fence with Harlan. With some careful jumping, you can reach the top of the boxes and balance on the fence. Carefully walk along the fence and jump down when you reach the wooden fence of the back garden. It may take a few tries, but once you know how to do it, it's a lot quicker to enter the garden this way.
- Once you're in the back garden, follow it around to the left of the house. There's a locked door which leads into a small generator room. Break through the door to enter the room. There's a workbench back here for you to repair your weapons, etc.
- Go through the double doors on the other side of the room to enter the main living room of the bungalow. There's a Thug guarding the front door which is locked.
- Kill the Thug however you want. There's enough space to do the usual tricks, so just kill it, then take the keys from its body. Use the keys to unlock the door.
- Go through the door and talk to Harlan again to finish the quest and follow him inside.
Notes[]
- There is the Banoi Herald Excerpt #12 inside the hut.
- There's also a metal chest next to the front door.
- It is recommended to help Harlan while you are on your way to the second gas station for the main quest Seek'n'Loot as you will be able to drop off the gas to complete his second side quest Fluid Necessity on your way back to the Lifeguard Tower.
- When jumping into the back garden from the rock outcrop, you will often suffer some health loss, so make sure you have some health before making the jump.
- This no longer happens in the Definitive Edition, as the fall damage was reworked.
Glitch[]
- The Thug inside the house may sometimes become unresponsive to the player. It will still take damage and die, but will not attack the player.
- This is fixed on Definitive.
