The Magnum, or Heavy Revolver as it is known in Riptide, is a type of firearm featured in Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. It can be given out as a Quest reward, sold by select Merchants and found in Metal chests or on killed Zombies.
Overview[]
The Magnum is the most powerful handgun in the game, however it has a lot of drawbacks that comes with it. The weapon deals the most damage per bullet than any other pistol variant, including the Revolver or even the Heavy Pistol. It also had good accuracy, affording it some modicum of sniping potential. Because of this, the weapon is excellent for killing Walkers or Infected in just one or two shots, especially if it's to the head, whilst also making it perfect for killing higher health special infected like the Thug, or even blowing up Suiciders. It also means it is good for conserving the somewhat rare Pistol Ammo that it uses. However, the large drawbacks of the weapon is the low magazine capacity of just 6 shots, equal to the Revolver and 3 shots short of the next lowest capacity pistol, the Heavy Pistol. It also has a very slow reload time due to using a cylinder rather than a magazine, which makes it a poor choice for crowd control. It is also unable to accept any sort of pistol Mods, which somewhat limits its potential. Nevertheless, the firearm is an extremely potent pistol that excels in high damage, especially in Riptide where it can easily one shot most zombies, high accuracy and excellent ammo conservation.

- The unnamed scientist at the Laboratory will give a magnum out as a reward for completing his side quest Rotting Flesh.
- In Riptide, Marvin will give one for completing the main quest Terminal Siege.
- Certain merchants can sell Magnums:
- Arthur at the Prison can sell one.
- The Magnum is the most powerful of all the handguns in the game.
- Purna Jackson will carry a Magnum during siege events if the first level of her Team Quest Upping the Odds for Purna has been completed.
Trivia[]
- The magnum uses the model of a Taurus Raging Bull revolver.
- It's unknown why the name was changed from Magnum to Heavy Revolver in Riptide.
