Last Chance on the Wall is a hard difficulty side quest given to the Hero by Howard Craigson in Dead Island.
Synopsis[]
The hero is asked to put up posters around Moresby in the hopes that Howard's lost family will see them and find him at the Church.
Walkthrough[]
- Talk to Howard to start the quest.
- He'll explain that when the outbreak happened, he was separated from his family. While he found the Church, his family was nowhere to be found. He's made some posters and asks you to put them up all around Moresby in the hopes that his family will see them and come find him at the Church.
- Exit the Church, down the steps and towards the Warehouse. The first poster is on a notice board outside the Warehouse. This means taking a left while facing away from the Church, heading to the end of the road and taking a right, heading up the hill towards the crashed bus. Go through the bus to reach the T-junction at the top of the hill where the pharmacy is, then go back down the hill along the curving road to find the Warehouse on your left. The notice board is just next to the broken open main gate of the Warehouse.
- Once that poster is done, go straight ahead down Langar Road towards the Market District. Continue straight over the cross junction ahead all the way to the end of the road. Take a right, following the road to find Nick's Hub and a pick-up truck broken through a fence gate. The notice board is next to the gate and this is the location of the second poster to put up. Also unlock Nick's Hub now if you haven't already.
- The third poster is at the bottom of this road. Follow it straight, through the Walkers and Infected to reach a bridge. Just on the other side there's a notice board opposite a box van. Go up to the notice board and hang up the poster. There is occasionally a Ram here and often a Thug, so once you arrive on the bridge proceed with caution and look out for them.
- The fourth poster is on the other side of the housing block that the T-junction faces at the end of the road. You can either follow the road around to the left, which exits at the notice board, or you can take the alleyway next to the wall of the Wastewater Plant. If you take the road, there's usually a Ram on it, while the alleyway has some Walkers to deal with. Either way, the notice board is up against a tree next to the road. Hang up the poster. There might be a Ram hanging about near this notice board, so be wary coming out of the alleyway if you take it.
- The final poster is now across Moresby at the Riverside and you have several options with how to get to it. Either you can go forwards, down the small second of road and take a right to do down a different road, following it to the City Bridge and then up the road that way, or you can continue straight until you reach the water and then take a right to go past the Pump Station and go through the alleyway to reach City Bridge that way and proceed as normal. This way, however, you encounter some constantly spawning burning Infected, but they're easily dealt with.
- Alternatively, you can go into the Pump Station itself and take its car. From here, you have a safe and quick mode of transport to reach the final poster. This is the method I suggest you use, as the Pump Station is one of the only 2 locations where you can find a car in Moresby.
- However you get to it, the notice board is facing the side of the Police Station, at a T-junction. As you come up from the road leading from City Bridge, it's halfway between the corner coming from City Bridge and the left turn to go around the Police Station. There's usually some Infected here and toxic Walkers, so deal with them first before attempting to hang up the poster.
- After hanging up the final poster, return to Howard at the Church. If you're driving in the car from the Pump Station, simply follow the road around. The minimap will show you where to go with a destination flag. If on foot, simply follow the road around to the front of the Police Station, then take a left, around the merchant and just follow the road all the way to another bridge. The Church will now be in sight.
- Once at the Church, find Howard and talk to him to finish the quest and get your reward.
Notes[]
- The quest is designed as a walking tour of Moresby. It avoids the Quarantine Zone but takes the Hero by key locations like the Police Station, the Warehouse, and Nick's Hub.
- Because of this, it's a good quest to take as soon as you get it but always keep in your back pocket. Instead of actively tracking it, complete bits of it when completing other side quests, as the posters are along the route of other side quests.
- The first poster can be done while unlocking the Warehouse during the side quest Simon Says...
- The second poster can be done while completing the side quest The Second Head of Cerberus, as it's right outside Nick's Hub, so you can get it whenever you go to unlock that safe house or do the speakers for the quest.
- The third poster can also be done while completing The Second Head of Cerberus, as it's opposite the fourth speaker for that quest.
- Poster four can be done while completing the main quest Drop by Drop, as it's along the route you'll take to close up the fire hydrants.
- The final poster can also be done while completing Drop by Drop, as it's also along the way. Alternately, if you've done all the posters very quickly, you can get to it while trekking to the Pump Station for the previous main quest, Drowned Hope.
- You can't do the posters out of order, despite them not being any different other than their locations, so even if you're at one poster board, you can't put up the poster unless the previous poster has already been put up.
- You can find Banoi Herald Except #20 on a shelf inside an open shop down Langar Road, located between the first and second poster locations.
- ID Card #45 is located on a fruit stand at the Market District, next to a red propane tank. Again this can be gotten while travelling from the first to the second poster.
- ID Card #36 is located on the floor right in front of the entrance to Nick's Hub. Easy to get from the second poster location.
- If you unlock Nick's Hub, you can get ID Card #58 and Banoi Herald Excerpt #22 inside the safe house.
- ID Card #33 can be found on a small porch between the second and third poster locations.
- Banoi Herald Except #19 can be found near to the notice board for the third poster. It'll be just behind where you hang it.
- If you go via the Pump Station to the final poster location, ID Card #39 will be just next to the fire hydrant.
- ID Card #34 is right near the end of City Bridge if you want to take a short detour to look for it.
Trivia[]
- Oddly, in the Definitive Edition, if the player takes the time to look at the signs after they’re placed, one can notice that the message says “I’m waiting in the motel. I can help you” and contains a photo of a man that looks nothing like the quest giver, Howard. This is not the case in the original game, as it displays the original poster.
- In actuality, the poster is actually showing Kyle Crane from Dying Light, as it is a reused asset used by Techland to make it easier for themselves when it came to remastering Dead Island. The poster is used in a quest in Dying Light.
