Insect Repellent is a medium difficulty side-quest given to the Hero by Lachance in Dead Island.

The Hero must travel to the warehouse and retrieve some icaridin.

  • This quest follow the exact same route as Substance of Matter.
  • Talk to Lachance to start the quest.
  • He wants you to get some icaridin from a nearby external warehouse.
  • Head out the Lab via the main entrance and head to the right, travelling along the metal walkway, and head through the fence door. Remember to close it behind you, just in case.
  • Head down the walkway. There's several bodies on the ground that will come alive. Kick them so they wake up and then stomp on them for an easy kill.
  • You should have already completed Substance of Matter, so the main door should already be open. Head in and grab the icaridin from a table on the right. There might also be a Floater here so be careful.
  • If not, jump up the boxes wedged in the fence in front of you to enter a small fenced area around the side entrance of the warehouse.
  • There's two Walkers here, one standing and one pretending to be dead on the ground. Kill the one standing before finishing the other with a stomp.
  • Head through the door. A zombie is waiting to grab you, so lead through the door with a kick.
  • On the floor there are four Walkers eating a body. This is a good time to use a molotov if you have one. If not, just swing your weapon at them until they're all dead.
  • Grab the icaridin and open the main door if not already open.
  • Kill the zombie on the floor before running back to the fence gate to get to the Lab.
  • Run all the way through the Lab back to Lachance to talk to him and complete the quest.

  • You'll see that the can of chemicals you collected for Frank in Substance of Matter is in the same place, despite it already being in Frank's room at the Lab. You also can't interact with either of them.

  • After completing this quest when I would return to the Laboratory map Lachance would have another reward for me, always a Deo-Bomb. This was repeatable (a good way to stock up on Deo-Bombs). I only got three from Lachance. After I turned in Scran's not for the Dead he stopped offering them. Scran's not for the Dead is the only side quest I had left in the Laboratory (I did not advance the main quest at the time). So I don't know if completing another side quest or reaching a limit caused him to stop.
