Insanity Zombies are zombies featured in Escape Dead Island. They first appear in the Blue Sector of the GeoPharm Labs.
Overview[]
Insanity zombies are unique in the fact that they technically don't exist. They are a construct of Cliff Calo's failing mental state and likely are only visible to him. They only appear as Infected, and show no hallmarks of being fakes until either attacked or they expire after an unspecified time. This makes Insanity zombies difficult to spot, as their unique behaviour only occurs after you go for the attack.
Appearance[]
Insanity zombies are difficult due to their unique behaviour. They look exactly like the zombie they are supposed to be, so being an Infected, they'll look like an Infected, etc, etc. There's no actual distinguishing features to them to tell them apart from a real zombie until you get to their behaviour.
Behaviour[]
As is a trending theme by now, insanity zombies behave like their original zombie type. Looking like an Infected, they behave in exactly the same way. That is, until they get near you. The zombie will come for you as normal, but upon getting hit or just get near you, you'll explode into dark shadows which disappear after a few seconds. This means that you can easily get distracted by insanity zombies while fighting real ones, since insanity zombies disappear upon getting hit or sometimes upon just getting close.
Strategy[]
- Don't waste a bullet on an insanity zombie. If one's coming for you, attack it in melee to get rid of it, instead of wasting a bullet.
- Because they are shadows and don't exist, a single melee swipe can take them out, so use that to get rid of them quickly.
- Rarely the zombie will teleport elsewhere and become real, causing you to need to fight the real zombie, but this is very rare and may just be a case of the insanity zombie distracting you from a real one, and it just looks like it teleports.
- The shadows they blow into don't hurt you, so there's no danger of that killing you.
Zombie Types[]
- Infected
Trivia[]
- These zombies are never named in-game, so the name given here is designated by the wiki.
- What look like insanity zombies can be seen in the distance from the Staff Village, but it's more likely that these are normal zombies that the game just makes low poly and black to save on resources.
