House Full of Surprises is a very easy difficulty side quest given to the Hero by Richard Case in Dead Island.
Synopsis[]
After saving Richard, the Hero is given the key to his bungalow and permission to loot it as a reward.
Walkthrough[]
- Richard is located near the Diamond Bungalows on Diamond Beach, trapped in a lifeguard station just past the furthest bar of the bungalows district.
- There's a Thug and some Walkers around the building, so kill them all however you want, then go into the lifeguard station to talk to him.
- He'll thank you for saving him and will give you the keys to his bungalow as a reward. He doesn't need the things in there so you can take what you want.
- Travel up the Diamond Bungalows area, the part which loops around through the small island with a few bars on it.
- There'll be some assorted enemies on the way, such as Walkers and a few Infected.
- Richard's bungalow is located on the peak of the loop, connected to the island via a wooden bridge. Go up to his bungalow main doors.
- Go into the bungalow and make sure to close the main doors behind you. This will be very important in a moment.
- Loot the bungalow. There's a few wallets around and some containers, but the main reward is meant to be a green rarity machete.
- Upon looting the bungalow, around 4 to 5 Infected will spawn and run to the main doors. This is why you needed to close them behind you, so that you don't get suddenly attacked while you loot the place.
- You can either open the main doors and start hacking away, or you can go out a side door and get the drop on them, as they'll take a few seconds to register your presence outside the bungalow.
- Kill them all and it will conclude the quest.
Location[]

Richard's location
The quest is given to the Hero in the Lifeguard booth where they saved Richard Case. The Lifeguard booth where he is located can be found 50m SE of the furthest East bar off coast. His house is the southern-most bungalow in the loop, not far from there (200+ m NE).
Notes[]
- The uncommon (green) machete will not respawn on following visits to the bungalow.
- The machete, which is the main reward of this side quest, might not spawn when the bungalow is opened. However, it seems to always spawn if the bungalow is entered by one of the rear doors instead.
- If you unlocked The suicider one will actually spawn for every visit afterwards
- the machete will actually level with you cause at low levels it’s homemade but higher levels it will be a real machete
