The Hot Rod Mod is a weapon mod featured in Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. It was added to Dead Island in Patch 1.3. The mod can only be applied to a Machete, the Tijuana Machete, or a Kukri . The mod adds a Fire Effect to the weapon.

The instruction below will allow you to heat up the blade of a machete to a temperature so high you will be able to cut through the flesh of the walking dead like butter. I advise you to be cautious while using - it can cause serious burns.
In Dead Island, the mod is found in front of the Police Station in Moresby, on the desk beside the fence. In Dead Island: Riptide, the mod is given by Miya for completing her side quest Surplus.

Notes

• This mod changes the in-game appearance of all Machetes to the same. Even Kukris have the same model, despite being very different when unmodded.
• This mod (unlike all other Fire Effect mods), won't light zombies on fire upon a critical hit, it instead deals the same amount of damage the critical hit itself did, as fire damage. Meaning that critical hits will deal double damage.
• It does, however, always ignite poisoned zombies. Throw the 'plaguebearer' weapon at an enemy and follow up with a Hot Rod Machete (while they're puking) for an easy kill on Thugs, Rams, Butchers and even the final boss.
• In Dead Island Riptide Definitive Edition, Miya will give this mod as a reward for finishing the quest "Surplus".
