The Homemade Cleaver is a variant of the Cleaver featured in Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. It can be given as a Quest reward, sold by certain Merchants or found on killed Zombies or in Metal chests. It no longer spawns past player level 24.
Overview[]
Much like other homemade weapons like the Homemade Knife or Homemade Machete, the Homemade Cleaver is the worst variant of the cleaver with all round poor stats compared to other weapons of the same level. It has very low durability with practically no force attribute, a low stamina cost and fast swing speed along with relatively low damage. These stats combined make it a poor weapon to use for any extended period of time, as it will require constant repair due to its low durability and its damage will quickly drop off, even again regular enemies such as Walkers. Whilst it can deal with Infected easily enough, and lone Walkers, against Thugs or groups of Walkers, the weapon will use up a lot of durability and possibly break towards the end of the fight, which means it doesn't have the staying power for a long fight, not to mention the short weapon reach, which only further harms the weapon's use. There are superior sharp weapons at low level which are all around better than the Homemade Cleaver, such as a regular Machete or even the aforementioned Homemade Machete which all have either better stats or a better weapon range than the Homemade Cleaver.

- A couple of merchants can sell Homemade Cleavers:
- Javier Wimsatt at the Lighthouse in the Resort can sell one.
- Rodrigue at Saint Christopher's Church can sell one.
- Eric Cotner in Moresby can also sell one.
- They can sometimes be found carried by Walkers, even after surpassing player level 24.
- In Riptide, John Morgan will carry and use one in Siege Events is no levels of his Team Quest Upping the Odds for John have been completed.
