The Heavy Pistol is a type of firearm featured in Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. It can be given out as a Quest reward, sold by select Merchants or found in Metal chests or on killed Zombies.
Overview[]
The Heavy Pistol is essentially a bigger, more powerful variant of the regular Pistol with some drawbacks that are worth noting. The Heavy Pistol has very good damage per shot, being higher than the Pistol and on par with the Revolver, though less than the Magnum. It has worse accuracy than the pistol, but despite this the accuracy is still very good. The high damage, plus applicable weapon Mods, mean it is good for taking out Walkers and Infected as well as killing harder enemies like Thugs. Whilst it does have a lower magazine capacity than the regular pistol, at 9 rounds compared to 15, it is still higher than either the Revolver or Magnum, which only have 6 rounds. Its rate of fire is also higher than either of those weapons, though slower than the regular pistol. Despite these drawbacks, the Heavy Pistol is capable of becoming the highest damage pistol in the game due to its ability to accept pistol mods. Whilst the Magnum has higher base damage per shot, when the Heavy Pistol has a mod applied, it can actually surpass the Magnum in terms of damage, especially to a person playing as Purna Jackson, whose skills will make the Heavy Pistol extremely potent.

- In Riptide, Nora at the Henderson Military Base will sell one after the main quest Militarized Zone has been completed.
- In Ryder White's Campaign, a Heavy Pistol can be found in one of the airdrop crates in Quarantine in Moresby.
- Harlow Jordan will carry a Heavy Pistol with the Shock Gun Mod during siege events if the final level of her Team Quest Jury-rigging for Harlow Jordan has been completed.
Trivia[]
- The Heavy Pistol is based on the IMI/Magnum Research Desert Eagle Mark I, with the nine-round magazine implying it is the .357 caliber variant. See the Wikipedia page for more details.
- In Dead Island: Definitive Edition, the Heavy Pistol has been remodeled to be based on the Heckler & Koch USP .45. It retains its 9 round capacity, which would be incorrect for the USP .45. The control lever is also incorrectly mounted on the slide rather than on the grip.
