The mod applied in the Definitive Edition
The Heavy Duty Mod is a weapon mod featured in Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. It was added to Dead Island in Patch 1.3. The mod can only be applied to a Metal Kanabo. When used at a Workbench, the mod adds an extremely heavy impact effects to the weapon.
Overview[]
The mod is one of the many weapon mods that is exclusive to a certain weapon, in this case it's only for the Metal Kanabo. The mod is relatively easy to find, and can be acquired shortly after entering Moresby if you wished, though it's easily acquired whilst completing a side quest regardless. The mod add one of the highest and most damaging mod effects in the game to the weapon but has a very large cost drawback to it, starting with its high cash cost. It is one of the most expensive mods in the game at $1,500 and it requires a whopping 18 mod items to craft at the workbench! Whilst none of the mod parts are rare, many such as Duct Tape and Wire are used in a plethora of other mods, which makes them desirable, though luckily many Merchants sell them. If you can scrounge up the cash and mod items, you do get a very powerful mod that has a high critical chance, critical damage and physics damage, making it one of the most effective mods for killing in the game.
In Riptide, the mod is acquired far later into the game and requires entering several Dead Zones to acquire the Rare modification items needed to finish his Team Quest. However, if you manage to succeed, the mod is unchanged and is still just as powerful.
Its power comes with several large drawbacks, starting with its cost. It is a lot of mod parts and cash to craft at a workbench, which might be a problem for a relatively low level player reaching Moresby if they don't have a lot of cash saved up or mod parts in reserve. It is also highly exclusive to the Metal Kanabo which doesn't appear all too often in merchant inventories, harming the frequency at how often this mod can be used, since it is the only applicable weapon. However, if these can be overcome, the mod is one of the most powerful in the game and one of the few to hold a rank 5 mod effect of some kind. It is, however, completely useless to Xian Mei as it is only applicable to blunt weapons, and a single one at that.

Notes[]
- This is one of the few mods to apply a rank 5 effect to the weapon, as most mods apply 4 or lower.
- Unlike most mods, it does not add a mod prefix to the front of the weapon after applying it. The weapon will remain with its randomly given prefix such as 'flimsy' or 'diabolical'.
