Guard on Duty is a very easy difficulty side quest given to the Hero by a guard in Dead Island.
Synopsis[]
The Hero must find and bring one bottle Alcohol for the guard to bribe him to let them through.
Walkthrough[]
- This is VERY easy. In the Definitive Edition, you can complete this instantaneously.
- Talk to the guard. He will tell you that he can't let you through. However, if you bribe him with a bottle of alcohol, he'll let you through
- If you're playing in the Definitive Edition, alcohol is kept in a separate inventory and you can carry an infinite amount. At this point of the game, you'll probably have one surplus, so just hand it to him to instantly complete the quest.
- If playing on the original, alcohol takes up a weapon slot, so unless you carry a surplus of it, you'll have to go hunt one. Luckily, one is in the mayor's office, so choose a weapon to drop temporarily and go get the alcohol.
- Hand it to the guard to complete the quest and head into the Sewers.

Notes[]
- It's possible that this quest is one of the reasons why the Town Hall got overrun by the undead. Combined with draining the sewers first, of course (it mentioned as soon as the Hero arrives that if they got through the zombies can too). Another prime possibility is the Ram found in the centre of the courtyard when the Hero returns in Bitter Return. There are comments about how the entire building is shaking during the first visit which suggest this as well.
