Get the Power Back On is the sixth main quest in the Ryder White's Campaign DLC in Dead Island.
Synopsis[]
Charon instructs Colonel Ryder White to activate the main generators in the prison basement, since he is unable to do it himself.
Walkthrough[]
- Upon first meeting Kevin, who contacted Ryder via radio that he could help save his infected wife Emily, Ryder immediately recognised him as Charon, the infamous hacker and terrorist. While not denying this, and indeed confirming it, Charon promises that he can keep Emily alive so long as Ryder does what he says. The first thing to do is turn the power to the prison back on.
- Go out of the transformer room and go down the stairs. There's a Walker leaning up against a wall who will try and attack you, but you can easily kick and stomp it.
- Once at the bottom of the stairs, go through the double doors. A Walker will try and grab you from behind a shelf, but you can knock it back.
- Heading forwards, you'll arrive at a junction and be attacked by 3 Infected. Kill them and head right. Before you do, kill the suicider that comes from around the corner in front of you and go in the direction it came from. You can find a few military crates that have some ammo and grenades in them.
- Upon heading right, you'll find the basement flooded, a fact that White tells Charon about and that if he turns on the power, he'll electrocute everything there, including himself. Charon doesn't respond, so all you can do is push on. There's a lot of Walkers at the end of the corridor, as well as an Infected and suicider. Blow up the suicider to take some of them out, then deal with what's left.
- You need to head left but before you do, go right to find another grenade, some health items as well as a meat bait, something of a rarity in this campaign.
- Heading left, you find another fork with a Walker at it, waiting to grab you. You can only go left from this one, so follow it to emerge into a large room. There's a couple of Infected here as well as a floater, you first one in this campaign. Kill the Infected when they reach you, then use a grenade or your auto rifle to spray down the floater from a distance.
- You need to start turning on the power, so go onto the nearest platform, kill the Walker playing dead and turn on the first switch. Now jump across the to adjacent one and turn on the second switch.
- The basement will now be electrified and Charon will tell you to 'please watch the water'. Thanks Charon. Jump from platform to platform to reach the corridor at the other end of the room leading away from this room. The corridor isn't waterlogged so no danger of being electrified.
- An Infected will charge at you right away, however, and there's a few Walkers in the end room, but kill them to be faced with another electrified room. As before, make your way across the room using the various floating rafts and boxes that allow you to jump over the electricity.
- Once across, kill the Walker next to the door and go through. Detonate the suicider on the other side and go down the corridor. You come out in a large open corridor but you're now going to be fighting rebel prisoners who have escaped. There's some Walkers here distracted by the rebels, but you can kill them before you go using a propane tank nearby.
- While you can try and shoot back through the bars blocking the corridor, the way through is through a locked door to you left. There was a Walker banging on it, so break it down and get out a firearm. Use cover to shoot back down the corridor and make your way to a door on the right. Along the way, you pick up the Stun Gun Mod, an interesting weapon as it doesn't use up your pistol ammo, is very short range and doesn't do a lot of damage but it will instantly knock a rebel down, though they quickly get up.
- Fight your way down the corridor, passing a workbench along the way to make a stun gun or repair your melee weapons. There's also plenty of health as a good percent of the rebels have rifles rather than pistols. Using a molotov or incendiary grenade is a good way of clearing out a lot of rebels guarding a barricade.
- Reaching the end of the corridor with the rebels, Charon will radio and tell White to watch out behind him as Infected are coming for him. Turn around and gun them down with an auto rifle, then proceed through to the locked door behind you, after breaking it down.
- Going through the corridor, you'll arrive at the Prison Docks, where Charon will tell you to look for a loading crane to help you. There's a dead rebel here with a radio next to him and you can hear a prisoner over the radio that he's sending more support, as they need to keep that area secure.
- Turning on a switch next to some stairs up will activate the crane but also bring out some prisoners. You can either go onto the boat for cover or go up the stairs to a catwalk where some metal sheets will give you cover. Either way, kill the prisoners and then go onto the crane which has a platform attached to it.
- Getting onto the crane and activating it to take you to the other side will spawn some more rebels, but you can easily shoot them from cover and kill them as you cross.
- Getting off the other side, go along the catwalk and down the stairs at the end. A couple more rebels will spawn but you can easily take them out. Use the elevator at the bottom of the stairs to call it to you. A rebel will be in it but you can blow him away as soon as the doors open.
- Get in and use the buttons to go up. A short scene will play showing the elevator rising and you'll be at the prison hospital. This ends the quest and immediately starts the new one.
Notes[]
- You can find one of Emily's recording logs just down the stairs after leaving the transformer room at the very beginning of the quest. While you can't pick it up, you can listen to it from the ground.
- If you try and lure a Walker into the transformer room where Charon is, as soon as you step into the room the Walker will turn around and wander away. This means that the transformer room is a sort of pseudo-safe house, where zombies won't enter it.
- When fighting the rebels in the docks, they appear on the minimap as white skull icons, meaning you can easily find where they're taking cover.
- This is not the case in the Definitive Edition as they no longer appear on the minimap.
