The lower warehouse
The Freight Elevator is a location featured in Escape Dead Island. It is a large, subterranean commercial elevator used to transport goods from the Helipad to the rest of Narapela. Cliff Calo comes here to use it to get to the Helipad so he can retrieve the final security keycard.[1]
Layout[]
The elevator consists of three parts, an upper warehouse, lower warehouse and the elevator itself. The two warehouses are long, rectangular rooms which contain all the ingoing and outgoing supplies to the island. There's many various boxes, metal shelves, a few barrels and even a couple of forklift trucks to help move it around. There's fire hoses on the walls at each end in case of a fire, while one of the long side walls has the elevator built into it. There's metal doors that open to the elevator, as well as buttons to make it go up and down between each warehouse room. The elevator itself is a metal platform with eight large, powerful electric motors on it, two in each corner, which propel it up and down. The upper warehouse has a short flight of stairs up to a long and rather steep ramp corridor to the Helipad, while the lower warehouse has a doorway to a tunnel system which ends up outside. Each warehouse has a large metal vehicle door which allows the large cargo and forklifts to drive elsewhere to get outside.[2]
Automated recording[]
The way to the freight elevator, and therefore the helipad, is via a tunnel system which can only be accessed after collecting the combat flashlight during Mission 6 - Stories of the Dead.[3] However, if you go to the tunnel during Mission 4 - Marathon and stand next to the lockers next to the entrance, you can hear an automated message play. The message only plays once, is not subtitled and does not repeat. The only way to listen to it again is by quitting out before reaching the next checkpoint and returning to the spot.[4]
“We're sorry, the elevator to the helipad is currently out of order. Manual override available according to regulation 45 3. Have a pleasant day.[5]”
Notes[]
- You can find the advanced axe on a workbench at the bottom of the freight lift, coming from the airfield, hidden behind some boxes.
- Opposite it, also behind some boxes, is the GeoPharm file #23.
- At the top of the freight lift, before going up the ramp to the helipad, you can find the research log #10.
- There is a visual glitch that can happen with this area. After first entering the lower warehouse room, if you walk over to the wall, go up against it and then look back into the room, all the crates, boxes, etc, will disappear, leaving you with an empty room with no scenery or props. Even the elevator itself and the large access doors to it will disappear. This is only visual, however, and it will go back to normal the instant you walk away from the wall.
- Taking a picture of the workbench with the Camera gives Snapshot 29.
- Taking a picture of the forklift truck with the Camera gives Snapshot 38.
