Bird on the Roof is a medium difficulty main quest given to the Hero by John Sinamoi in Dead Island.

Synopsis[]

The Hero must get to the roof of the Hotel in an attempt to find a stronger antenna to contact The Voice.

Walkthrough[]

  • Talk to Sinamoi to start the quest.
  • Dominic travelled to the Hotel roof to try and use their antenna to cut through the monsoon. Because it's bigger with better equipment, it should have a better signal to the outside world. However, Sinamoi hasn't heard from them for a while, so the Heroes have to go check on him.
  • Take the car from outside the Lifeguard Tower garage and drive to the Hotel.
  • You can also travel there by foot by walking through the hotel bars area, past the underground toilets where you go as part of Omar's quest Hit and Run before walking around the perimeter of the Hotel to access the Hotel that way.
  • In the car, drive down the road leading up to the entrance of the Hotel, running over all the zombies in your way.
  • After you've killed all you can in the car, get out and walk the short distance to the door next to the body which you collect the keycard from to start the hidden quest Gold Digger if you didn't collect it when you came to the Hotel the first time.
  • Use the door to enter the cutscene where the Heroes find Dominic and talk to the Voice. It shows Sam B getting impatient at how long it's taking The Voice to contact them, as it's been 10 minutes since they were supposed to receive a transmission from him. Logan uses the radio again to try and contact The Voice while Xian Mei suggests trying again in an hour, which Sam B disagrees with. However, they are rewarded with finally getting through to The Voice. He tells them that the offer to get them off the island still stands and he's got a helicopter waiting to take them to an aircraft carrier off-shore, providing they can reach him. Logan tells him happily that they have wheels so can make it, but The Voice shuts him down. Confused, the Heroes listen as The Voice tells them he's on the Prison island in the middle of the bay. This puts the Heroes on edge and Purna demands an explanation. The Voice reveals that he's Ryder White, a Colonel in the B.I.D.F who came to the Prison to get his wife. The Heroes want to talk to her but White tells them she's infected. The Heroes are still suspicious so White shouts at them, telling them to trust him as he's "A B.I.D.F. Colonel, not some thug in a cell'. Purna still isn't convinced and asks why he doesn't just get the fleet to help him. White responds, telling her they're stuck in a monsoon 80 miles off-shore, so no help can be given. After bickering with Xian Mei, who thinks he's telling the truth, Logan responds to White, telling him that it doesn't look like they have a choice, but they need to find a boat. White tells them that the Prison is surrounded by a minefield, so they need to head inland via the Bunkers to the Mingende Jungle to find a smuggler named Mowen, as he knows a way through the mines. Purna warns White that she'll personally decapitate him if he's lying to them before Logan cuts him off while replying. After this, the screen fades to black as the cutscene ends.
  • You're deposited back outside again, so simply get in your car and drive back to the Lifeguard Tower, or walk if that's how you got here.
  • Talk to Sinamoi to finish the quest.

Notes[]

  • If the Hero uses the fast travel map to go to any other location to stock up before preforming this quest, the Armored Truck will disappear when the Hero returns.
  • Unlike when you first came through the Hotel, you don't actually enter the Hotel. A cutscene plays and you get deposited back outside again.
  • Infected will spawn in the Hotel grounds now, caused from when you first came through and collected the armoured truck, making it a slightly more hazardous area than the first time through.
  • Suiciders also spawn, since you meet them after first coming through.
  • Strangely, zombies you have killed DO NOT respawn like they normally do when you use a portal to enter another area or house. Normally, when you enter/exit a new area via portal/fast travel, etc, all the zombies on the map respawn. However, when you use the portal to enter the Hotel, they do not. This is likely because the cutscene plays and we don't actually load into a new area, the portal just triggers the cutscene and our character stays in the overworld.

Trivia[]

  • While White is talking to the heroes during the cutscene, when raising his voice at the heroes reluctance to go to the Prison, he accidentally mispronounces the B.I.D.F as the B.D.I.F. while talking about himself as a Colonel rather than some prisoner in a cell. It's unknown if this was because the script had a typo or if the voice actor accidentally mixed up the abbreviation.
