Multiplier

An example of the score multiplier

Score Multiplier is a gameplay feature in Dead Island: Retro Revenge and allows for higher points to be collected from defeated enemies to give a better end-of-level score. As getting a good ranking at the end of a level is entirely dependant on the amount of points collected in the stage, getting a high points multiplier and keeping it is imperative to getting a good final score.

The current points multiplier is shown on screen at all times as a series of 10 dark red fists which are closed. Each successful kill on an enemy gained without getting hit in return turns one of these fists into a 'rock hand', which is with the pinkie finger and index finger out like at a rock concert and the hand will glow yellow. Getting all 10 hands turned into these symbols will activate a x2 multiplier, repeated all the way up to a x4 multiplier. Using the super weapon at any point will double your current multiplier (having a x2 multiplier will double into x4, etc) for as long as the weapon is active, with the hands turning into glowing blue hands with fire on them. When the super weapon is finished, the multiplier drops back to how it was, though getting kills with the super weapon increases the count as normal.

Getting hit at any point by any means will reset the current multiplier back to 0, with all fists closed again. This can be caused by getting hit by an enemy or running into an obstacle, at which point the multiplier will need to be built up again.

Notes[]

  • Destroying a barrier will cause one rock hand to open, thus counting just like a kill would towards the score multiplier.
