Drowned Hope is a hard difficulty main quest given to the Hero by Mother Helen in Dead Island.

Synopsis[]

The Hero must travel to the pump station and uncover why Saint Christopher's Church lost their water source.

Walkthrough[]

  • This quest takes a while to complete, so make sure you have time to do it, as quitting and reloading the game later will cause the quest to reset. You have been warned.
  • Talk to Mother Helen to start the quest.
  • She tells you that if you're looking for food or water, they have none, and that their water supply was cut off several days ago. She sent two people to the Pump Station to find out what happened, and that if you can find them she will tell you where you might be able to find more supplies.
  • Head out the Church and down the stairs to where the armoured truck is located. You can't drive it, so continue down the road and take the right turn.
  • There's a bunch of Walkers behind the box truck, so deal with them using whatever tactics you want. See the main Moresby page for tips on travelling.
  • After killing them all, there's a group of three more and an Infected will run at you. Take them all out as well and continue straight down the road, dealing with the zombies as you come to them.
  • Follow the road around to the left, then the right. There's usually a Ram there, so be prepared to fight one. See its dedicated page for tips.
  • Continue down the road towards the crossroad at the entrance to the Police Station. There's usually a Suicider wandering around there, so be aware. There's also a merchant and workbench for you to use as a 'checkpoint' of sorts.
  • Head to the right of the Police Station and follow the road around to the left, past the burning car. There's a lot of zombies here, including burning Walkers. You can wait until they die from the fire to reduce the amount you need to fight.
  • Follow the road all the way to the end, weaving between the abandoned vehicles. There's usually a few Suiciders here and an Infected may jump down from the Police Station roof to attack you, so keep an eye on that building rooftop to see it coming early.
  • Follow the road to the right and head all the way down to the end. An Infected will jump off the roof when you get to the fire hydrant to greet you. There's also some poison Walkers here, so if you have a fire weapon it will make your life a lot easier.
  • Follow the road bend to the left and run all the way down to the blown up bridge. There's a lot of Walkers here, but it'll be the last big group you have to fight to finish this quest, to take them out maliciously.
  • Don't follow the road now, head down the alleyway in front of you to reach the Pump Station.
  • There's two punks on the roof. Take out your pistol and kill them. If you don't have one, either go get one or quickly climb up to them and kill them with a melee weapon, though you'll likely die in this approach. Grab a pistol anyhow.
  • You now need to fight your way through the pump station to clear it. Head through the door and follow the waypoints as they lead you through the building.
  • Fight your way to the back of the building, where you'll be greeted by the remaining punks. You might also encounter a Walker who was drawn there by the noise, but that's very rare.
  • Kill them all and make your way to the building in the corner. Open the door and talk to Antonio.
  • He thanks you for saving them before running back inside to see what he can do about the water situation.
  • After examining the equipment in the control room, he tells you that it all looks ok but five hydrants are open.
  • Talk to him again to finish this quest and take up the next one Drop by Drop.

Notes[]

  • Quitting the game while this quest is active will deactivate and reset the quest completely, forcing the Hero to talk to Mother Helen to activate it again. This is done deliberately so that the Patch 1.3 smart quest system cannot be used to get partway to the Pump Station and then exit and reload. It is designed so that the entire trek must be made in one go.
    • That's likely also the reason why there is no fast travel map at the pump station itself, despite it appearing to be another safe house.
  • This quest is designed to be a walking tour of the right side Moresby, hence why you're meant to do it in one go.
  • Use the usual strategies when travelling around Moresby. See the main page of it for more tips.
  • There's always a merchant near the Police Station for you to sell off some of your inventory if you're full.
  • When fighting the punks in the Pump Station, there are a lot of propane tanks for you to use as explosive kills.
