Devan Mavropani is a character featured in Escape Dead Island. He is best friends with Linda Waterson and Cliff Calo. He set sail with Linda and Cliff to the island of Narapela to find the origins of the zombie virus.
Devan is the pilot of the boat as they sail to the island, so can't get up to much prior to their arrival at the island. He would draw some of the surroundings, but since Cliff has him pilot the boat, he can't.[2] Upon arriving, Devan hangs around at the beach with the others until the boat sinks and Cliff is unconscious for a few hours.[3] He is at the deserted hut when Cliff awakes, and wonders if they can get off the beach through it.[4]
Devan is the one who has the idea to go to a nearby mountaintop to get their bearings.[5] While going there, they encounter a large pile of bodies, horrifying them all, but they continue regardless to the mountaintop.[6] There, Linda has a disagreement with Devan about what to do. Linda wants to go to a village to find people to interview, the purpose of their trip, while Devan wants to go to the marina to look for a boat first.[7] Cliff sides with Linda, but he was distracted and not listening properly. They return back down the mountain to the body pile where they encounter their first zombie, which Cliff kills.[6] After Linda is bitten by a Bouncer while they were in shock at the zombie Cliff just killed, Devan helps Cliff to bandage her up[8] before taking her back up to the mountaintop, where they'll be safe while Cliff goes in search of a cure.[9]
Devan is not encountered until after Cliff wakes up on the mountaintop after retrieving the main keycard to the labs.[10] Devan was not present when Linda was abducted by the mutant, and he has an argument with Cliff. Devan tells Cliff that Linda's dead and they should get off the island while they still can. Cliff is adamant that he can still find a cure at the labs, and is going there to find Linda and a cure. Devan angrily tells Cliff he's going to the marina to look for a boat off the island.[11]
Again, Devan is forgotten until Cliff escapes from Aaron in the lab and wakes up at the mountaintop.[12] After seeing Linda die, Cliff decides to find Devan and escape the island like he said. Heading to the marina, he sees a boat at the marina pier and hears Devan radioing to him.[13] Upon reaching the pier, however, he has an insanity episode where the boat is sunk and Devan is collapsed on the ground.[13] Awaking from this, he finds the boat sunk and Devan missing.[14]
Faith Kimball contacts Cliff on the radio later and tells him that she knows where Devan is. Aaron took him, like he took Linda, and he's at the Crown Residence. Faith can help Cliff save him and get them both off the island so long as he takes her with him as well.[15] Fighting to the top of the villa,[16] to Emory Crown's Office, he encounters Faith, who ends up releasing Devan who bites Cliff on the neck.[17] Faith tells Cliff that he has to take her serum to survive. Cliff ends up battling inside his mind, where he meets Devan again, several times, urging him to hurry.[18] It ends with Cliff reaching Devan in his mind with the cure next to him, but it's not revealed whether he injects himself or Devan with it, leaving his fate unknown.[19] However, after the credits, the box that Cliff sets at sea bumps into a boat carrying Cliff, Devan and Linda as they make their way to Narapela Island.
Appearance[]
Devan is a young man with short black hair, a small beard and black glasses. He wears a white t-shirt with a dark blue jacket over it, a light blue scarf around his neck, beige shorts, white socks, and beige trainers. On his right wrist he's wearing three bead bracelets, while on his left wrist is a silver watch. There's also a ring on his right index finger.[20]

- He was never friends with Cliff until they had to be roommates at college, where they became friends.[22]
- Devan hints to Cliff in college that Linda has a crush on him, but Cliff doesn't feel the same way.[23]
- Upon leaving college, Cliff and Devan talked about starting their own business, but after hearing that he's not going to be come the next CEO of his dad's company, Cliff bins this idea, to Devan's disappointment.[24]
