Dark Brains are one among the new types of zombies featured in Dead Island 2's Haus DLC. They are a unique breed of mutated undead, their brains bursting out of their host's original body to transform into a form of unliving "artery tree". Unlike the other zombies the Slayers ever encountered, the Dark Brains cannot deal any damage and instead act as obstacles, blocking off various sections of the map. The only weapon capable to destroy them is the Crossbow.
Overview[]
The Dark Brain is unlike anything else encountered in Los Angeles, or anywhere else for that matter. It is a large, pulsating, highly mutated brain which has burst out of their host's head and created a web of pulsing arteries to lift it away from their host body and off somewhere else. The Brain has no form of attack, nor any of defence, however its arteries act as metal wire and can block off routes or doors, preventing anyone from passing them. However, this lack of attack/defence is their weakness as when destroyed the arteries collapse, freeing any passage they were blocking.
Appearance[]
Dark Brains are exactly what they sound like, a large living brain which has mutated far beyond its natural size. They are extremely large and pulse as if they have a heart beat. Because of their mutated size, they have broken out of the heads of their host body and freed themselves, using arteries and veins to carry and crawl them away. These arteries act as a link, or trail, back to their host body which allows the brain to remain connected, even if it has travelled far away, even through ventilation systems in some cases.
Behavior[]
Dark Brains are strange things as they have unique behavior not seen in any other zombie type. Beyond their initial movement away from their host body, Dark Brains are non-motile. They do not move from their position once they are rooted, like some sort of morbid, undead mutated tree. The arteries and veins act as roots, linking them to the body, and the brain will happily sit on a wall or in a corner and pulsate, whilst sending out arteries as feelers. They have no reaction to anything passing them by, be it undead or otherwise, and make no attempts to attack prey or defend themselves from enemies.
Strategy[]
- The only weapon that can damage them is the Crossbow. Do not attempt to use any other ranged weapon, Curveballs or melee them, as it will do nothing.
- Dark Brains are sometimes in out of the way areas, or in places less obvious, making them difficult to find. However, they will pulse like a heartbeat, which will give away their location.
- Additionally, they must remain linked to their host body via their "roots", so if you are struggling to find the brain, simply trace where they are by following the "roots" away from their host body to find them.
- Their arteries are usually blocking off doors or jamming locks, but they need to remain connected to the brain so if you have found a blocked door, you can follow the artery back to the brain to find it.
Trivia[]
- Dark Brains are the only new zombie introduced in the Haus DLC.
